TheWitcher6 - *SPOILERS* Witcher 3 rewards exploration with various depths to quests. Contains SPOILERS

Do I really need to specify again that this thread contains Spoilers?

Because it does. So please only read on if you have no objection to Spoilers.

I've only played through Witcher 3 once (by 'played through' I mean defeated the Wild Hunt) but I've restarted it quite a few times (for various reasons), so I've done the Morkvarg quest many times. Except I've never completed that quest, not in its entirety, until now.

Until one of my most recent games I'd never entered the underwater area and got the key to the back rooms of the house in the middle of Freya's Garden, so I'd never found Morkvarg's journal. I always just killed Morkvarg, defeated him a second time, fed him his own flesh, and job's done. Or so I thought.

Even the first time I found Morkvarg's Journal I never got the prompt to talk to Einar and ask why he'd lied to me because I didn't talk to him the first time.

The next time I got Morkvarg's Journal I had gone to Einar before heading into the garden, and on my second visit to him to find out why he'd lied to me, I took umbrage at his bravado (I'll show you what a Witcher can do!), looted the Cursed Fang, wondered what it was for, looked it up online…and then I had to reload an earlier save where Morkvarg (and Einar) were still alive so I could uncurse Morkvarg and get his reward. Not that I needed it, what with Geralt being decked out in the best Witcher gear for his level, but now that I knew what was up with that particular quest I had to 'complete' it 100% 🙂

And it left me in awe at the lengths the writers went to not just with this quest, but I'm sure with many others that I've missed, too. They could have just had us feed Morkvarg his own flesh and been done with it, but they went a step further. They wrote in a second, alternative ending for the Explorers who take their time and pay attention and do everything and read everything and find everything.

Read:  Wanting the show to stay true to the source material has nothing to do with racism!

It reminds me of Yennifer's Crystal Skull which you can only find at the start of the game in the area where you defeat the very first pack of ghouls. When you pick up the skull Geralt says he thinks it belongs to Yen, then it goes into your inventory as a Quest item, but you don't get a quest to go along with it. It just sits there in your inventory taking up space, or so you think, except after completing The Last Wish quest but before going on to do The Ugly Baby quest, you can find Yen in her room at The New Port inn in Skellige and that's when you give the skull to her. Even though you see Yen several times prior to The Last Wish, this is apparently your only opportunity to give the skull to her…and as far as I'm aware there is nothing in the game to prompt you to do this. It's only in the game to reward the explorers and completionists. But it's in there! Someone took the time to make sure this easter egg made it into the final game!

And it makes me wonder…what other easter eggs are buried within this game?
