This faithful recreation of the once king of kart racers means Crash Team Racing has seized the throne once more, with enough content and a high skill ceiling to keep players returning for years… Beenox has managed to take the original Crash Team Racing, and somehow made it better.

Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled is a gold-standard remaster, capturing the loveably janky, off-brand spirit of classic CTR – and then some… It's just plain, dumb fun, a game completely unashamed of itself even now. I think that's probably why, even beyond the enormously generous treatment it's had from Beenox and under the nice, polished-up hood, CTR is still one of the best kart racers ever made.

The amount of love and attention to detail that has gone into recreating Crash Team Racing is remarkable. Those original tracks packed in so much character despite the limitations of the original PlayStation hardware. Here, in 2019, these same circuits have been given a full-on facelift, yet still burst with nostalgia. The exact same can be said of Nitro-Fuelled soundtrack – it’s a double thumbs up from us.

Crash Team Racing: Nitro Fueled offers you tons of content, a high quality visual redesign, new features (characters, circuits, customization, skins, etc.). It is a dive into the past that is absolutely not deceptive. This remake is remarkable!

As much as we love remasters, it is not often they are as justified as Crash Team Racing Nitro Fueled has proven itself to be. The well-balanced difficulty of this games map and AI fills a niche in the Kart Racing genre that is sure to delight multiplayer parties and provide a healthy challenge for both nostalgia-filled millennials and newcomers alike.

Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled is exactly what the doctor ordered. It's light-hearted, hugely entertaining, and made with a real eye for detail that helps elevate the overall experience. After the disappointment of the recent Sonic one, this has put everything in the world right again.

It's everything we ever wanted and more! Officially CTR is our go-to party game, it's so much fun to play for new players and returning player alike. Improved graphics, multiple modes and more.
The Games Machine | Score: 8.8/10 | Link>
The game developed by Beenox is a highly optimized title for today's standards while maintaining all the charm of the original. Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled is colorful, virtuous and fun, offering an interesting level of difficulty that makes the whole operation not just a vehicle to recall memories, but also a challenging arcade game with all the trappings of the genre.
IGN | Score: 8.2/10 | Link>
Crash Team Racing made a name for itself as “the other good kart racer.” And to this day its dynamic courses, flavorful lore, challenging-yet-clear power-sliding mechanic, and lack of catch-up items make it a game that deserves better than living in Mario Kart’s shadow… It
a kart racer worth playing, especially competitively (though new players should check out a guide or two first). Despite a few seriously frustrating single-player races, Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled is a thrilling ride that keeps the excellent original game intact while adding some quality of life updates, such as an improved HUD, and obligatory modern trappings such as unlockable cosmetics.
GameSpot | Score: 8/10 | Link>
This is a remaster done right. Nitro-Fueled maintains the spirit and rock-solid foundations of a childhood favorite while building on it and modernizing it where necessary–even if the handling might take a bit of getting used to. Adventure mode's classic variant feels a little tough, but your first race on Roo's Tubes or Sewer Speedway will bring a nostalgic grin to your face regardless. When the nostalgia fades, Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled remains fun and engaging enough to keep you racing on with a smile on your face for much longer yet. It's good to have Crash back.

A jam-packed remake that looks and sounds brilliant, Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled is a lovingly crafted remake of a much beloved kart racer. Online play and customisation bring it kicking and screaming into the 21st century, but for as fun as the zippy racing is, it sticks perhaps a little too closely to the original model. High difficulty and some unforgiving track design mean this feels slightly dated. However, it's hard not to crack a smile as you drift around familiar tracks, laying down TNT crates, and humming along to the music. Fans will love what Beenox has done, but for everyone else, just be aware of the game's retro tendencies before stepping behind the wheel..
Destructoid | Score:
I've spent some time recently ripping up roads in Beenox' remake of the classic PS1 release Crash Team Racing. Nitro-Fueled is published by Activision, who gave us the incredibly successful Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy and – just like that release – it appears they have another winner on their hands. Nitro-Fueled is looking to be a faithful tribute to the original CTR, given a fresh coat of paint and a few tweaks under the hood for a new generation, while retaining the addictive gameplay that made the 1999 hit such a best-seller.
Post will be updated with more reviews as they become available.
