TLNGR(Too long not gonna read): Title
I'll start off by saying that Tibia has dated 2D graphics, but if you want a Open-pvp sandbox MMO then this is one of very few decent options.
Now about the private server:
I'll first talk about the feature which makes this private server my favourite, the Rebirth system:
There are 20+ total classes all with 5+ unique spells and at least 1 passive. You choose a class once you start, and when you defeat a certain boss (requires about 5+ people at first to defeat, fewer if you have good teamwork, later on a higher level who has reborn can clear it for you) You're able to Rebirth into another class, this means you inherit all of the spells of that class and keep your previous classes spells too. Some combinations work and some don't but the beauty of it is that you can come up with OP combinations yourself, and have a unique combination that nobody else has come up with and destroy others in PVP (or be destroyed), since the game is 2D many of you might think the combat lacks depth but it really doesn't (just trust me). Once you get an even higher level, there's another boss you can defeat (needs 10+ people) to rebirth again, meaning you have combined 3 classes together allowing for a shitton of combinations.
It uses many ideas from games such as path of exile (even has for example mirrors) and changes the loot system of Tibia entirely. The way it works is you start off by getting Tier 1 loot from monsters and the stronger the monsters the higher tier loot they drop and you can upgrade an item from Tier 1 to Tier 2 by having 3 of the same tiered item type. So 3 tier 1 helmets can be upgraded to 1 tier 2 helmet and there are 15 tiers.
This system means that you're consistently upgrading your gear and don't have to rely too much on RNG to upgrade, that doesn't mean there aren't rare items that you can loot. Any monster can drop a "mirror" which will create a copy of an item, I've only seen one dropped within a year (there's a server wide message when someone loots it). After a certain level you're also able to loot an "uber spell" which is an extra, usually very powerful spell for your class and each class has its own uber spell.
There are many more features that I won't cover such as the fact that there could be 1000+ players on the same map that can all PvP each other with no instancing(there have been 40~ player wars between guilds), but I covered the most exciting ones for me. The server will be relaunching on May 31st, last time it launched there were 400 concurrent players, and likely will have the same this time around if not more if this post gets traction.
On the last relaunch cash shop was disabled for the initial week, there are gameplay altering items you can get there, however all of them apart from the amulets are obtainable in-game. You can get cash shop currency from in-game quests, by trading loot with players and through (actually quite fun) mini-games such as dodgeball, and I can honestly say that there's nothing P2W there that would make much of a difference after the first initial week and by that time you'd have enough currency to buy anything you'd have wanted anyway. Personally I've paid about $10 for the sake of supporting the server and never felt I needed anything from the cash shop.
The website, you can download and play now to try it out however there aren't many people playing as we're all waiting for the relaunch, and I recommend you do the same as there's many QoL changes coming: http://deathzot.net/
