So it looks like when it comes to the 9th gen consoles, especially for PS5, that the demand is pretty high and those who didn't pre-order won't get their hands on them for quite some time, possibly until early 2021. While my hearts go out to those who were really excited but can't get them, I personally am fine with not getting them. Here are some reasons
Lightning-fast load times feel unnecessary
According to this particular review, it looks like the load times are definitely faster on PS5. I mean it's a neat feature and all, but most of the time there are times when I'm completely fine with load times being a bit on the slow side. It gives me a brief window for me to be idle, get a cup of water, check my phone, etc. Not to mention, some load time differences barely matters. Granted, some are significant, like 30 seconds difference for TLOU2, but don't tell me no one can wait that long. IDK, I feel this feature was designed for really impatient people.
I would never run multiple games at once
Personally, this feature feels the most useless. I'm the type of gamers that like to immerse myself in the game, which really enriches the experience. I love to put all my focus on a game that I'm playing. Switching between multiple games sounds like it will break that immersion.
Besides, If I'm used to the controls and the mechanics of one game, it takes a while for me to get used to another. It takes me a few days to get used to the game, so what are my chances of getting used to different games at the same time?
Not to mention, if it's multiplayer games this feature wouldn't work. You would need to queue up, wait for the matches, then play the matches of two different multiplayer games. I don't see a lot of people being able to do that. IF the multiplayer game has a competitive/ranked mode, then the player has to focus on that, and nothing else.
Sounds like this feature just puts unnecessary stress on the consoles.
Exclusive Launch titles are somewhat lackluster.
The launch titles that are exclusives for each console are
- Demon's Souls
- Goonya fighter
- Astro's playroom
Xbox Series X:
- Nothing. All launch titles are available on other platforms
*Miles morales is also coming to ps4, so it doesn't really count
Now, I'm sure you are excited about some games on the whole launch title list on each of these consoles, but why would you drop the price of console + game just to play them at higher quality at the stable performance? If you are really excited for that particular game, are you really ready to waiting for the new console to be available, and then buy the game? Although I give huge shoutouts to companies that are letting consumers to upgrade their games to the new consoles for free.
I'd rather have new pc parts
Maybe it's because I have bigger library of games on Steam, maybe it's because I don't have to pay extra subscriptions to play online, but I'd rather have more powerful pc parts to play the next-gen titles. It's a bummer that I would probably never be able to play Demon's Souls or Bloodborne on pc, but hey, it's just those two.
