PSA for the rest of you that might have jumped on this deal earlier in the month. Hopefully this will allow you to avoid any confusion and spare the waste of time trying to figure this out like I did.
About a week ago, Best Buy was selling Katamari for a sale price of $12.99, and I purchased it on 11/5. This price is what showed up on my credit card and what I knowingly paid for on the order screen, but about a week later I got another charge for around $7 on my CC from Best Buy. After wasting a handful of hours over multiple days trying to figure out what this mystery charge was with BB's terrible customer service, I finally got connected to a supervisor tonight who was able to help me.
As I was looking through my most recent orders over the phone, I noticed that my order history on Best Buy was retroactively altered to show a $19.99 price for Katamari after I already paid for it at $12.99!!! I'm not sure what the legality of this is, but here's a friendly PSA that Best Buy can apparently do this, and it makes me very wary to shop with them from now on. Once I noticed this, I told the supervisor on the phone, and they initially didn't believe me at all, citing that the only thing I paid for it was $19.99 as shown on my order history page (which I knew was false as per the charges on my card). However, luckily I had proof!
I had kept the original order confirmation email Best Buy sent me, and guess what the original price was- $12.99! After explaining this to the supervisor, they were more than happy to refund me the difference, but mentioned they don't know why this has happened at all. What's even more worrisome is that they mentioned that they have been having a lot issues with their online system like this recently, so please take this PSA to heart and watch your credit card account and your Best Buy order history like a hawk. Keep an eye out on your orders, and record what you pay for them initially/ print records for proof. If you see any strange charges, call right away and make sure you keep your original order confirmation emails so they can't tell you your crazy.
Hopefully this was just a one off issue with my order alone, but I'm posting this in hopes that anyone else who ordered Katamari for this price around that time can use this a guide if they encounter any weird charges from Best Buy recently, or even if Best Buy sneakily charges you more for an item after you already went through with the transaction at a better price. It's almost Black Friday, so naturally there are many different deals and you might be purchasing many different games at once, but please keep an eye out on all your orders so you don't get ripped off like this without ever knowing it!
