I have some questions about what kind of rights the victims have.
- Does victims from the insider hijackings have a right to get a refund as Jagex have claimed to refund / have refunded any players affected.
- What rights do competition winners have in regards to get their prize from Jagex?
- Is their response to this incident enough to comply with GDPR? Posted Sep 20 2018.
Does the victims have a right to know what information that was leaked about them?
Anything else they have right to?
Jagex is based in Cambridge UK
Players had their information stolen including CC information from one or more employees in Jagex.
Detailed thread about what information that was leaked.
The total value stolen from players is unknown, but from refunds on reddit there is a value over $400,000.
That is only from victims that posted on reddit and decided to share their refund on reddit.
The total is estimated much much higher, including information that is not made public by Jagex.
(hijacks were done through standard recovery and only some victims got refunded as there was no way of knowing who was a victim)
/u/mazrim_lol was one of the victims. He was complaining for over 4 months in the OSRS subreddit over losing wealth worth over $30,000. All he was told is that he had his information compromised by the Runescape moderators.
Feel like I am going crazy here, I was the victim of perhaps the largest recovery ever at 45 bil lost. The only response is being accused of rwt or being told it’s my fault, I had only ever entered my login name on osbuddy and runelite from 2007scape
No one wants to hear it but there is a serious data breach around some well trusted source of data in runescape, be it osbuddy, runelite or jagex. Possible link to IP leaks on deadman as well. from 2007scape
They replied /u/mazrim_lol with '' It does look like you've had a serious amount of information compromised. ''
/u/mazrim_lol had to make another post to finally get his refund with thousands of upvotes.
So I am the person who got hacked for 45b recently with the only possible source for lots of info being a jmod, no one believed me, am I going to get my gp back after this new reveal Jagex? from 2007scape
Another victim with information including CC information stolen and was not getting a refund before his reddit post got big.
Another victim /u/ucandoitBFX that had to keep posting on social media to try and get his refund.
I was the first person Mod Jed hacked, ~1 month before it started happening to others. JAGEX REFUSES TO REFUND ME 40B!! 10B+ drop party on livestream if i get my refund. Please help me out. from 2007scape
Jagex had investigated the employee ''thoroughly'' and found no evidence while people accused him of DDOSING in their DMM tournaments (Jagex esports tournament) for the $20K prize multiple times.
Jagex got a history of not paying prizes to winners for YEARS and you need multiple frontpage reddit posts to actually get a response on issues like this. Examples on that:
20K upvotes of someone not getting paid for their WORK they have done for Jagex.
Most give up and are not getting their prizes. What is the best thing they can do here?
