Question on GPU and Monitor Upgrades

diablo1 - Question on GPU and Monitor Upgrades

I just want to start by saying I'm really appreciative of the activity on this subreddit and the passion for this six-year-old game (despite recent events). I've been playing D3 on PC since launch with a one year break about two years ago. I still play primarily on PC, but recently dipped my foot into the console pool and played a few hours of D3 on my PS4/Sony 4K TV setup, and the game looks and plays beautifully. Compared to my PC, which I can only run at 60fps with all specs down to low (including Low FX), it's like night and day.

This led me to want to update my current PC setup. These are my specs from the PC I built back in 2014, along with a link to the results of my UserBenchmark test:

CPU: Intel Core i5-3470

GPU: Nvidia GTX 660 2GB

SSD: Crucial M4 256GB SSD

RAM: G.SKILL RipjawsX DDR3 1600 C9 2x4GB

MBD: Asrock H77M

Monitor: Monitor – Asus VE228H 21.5" (1080p, 5ms response time, 60 Hz refresh rate)

I don't want to spend more than a combined $400 on upgrades, so what I'd like to do is upgrade my GPU to the GTX 1060 3GB and my monitor to an Acer GN246HL (1080p, 1ms, 144Hz). From the internet researching I've done so far, I know that upgrading the GPU and display will make a significant difference. For reference, I am a light PC gamer, with Diablo 3 as my primary game. I've played FPS in the past like Left 4 Dead and Portal (not really a shooter), but generally my gaming is not terribly taxing on my PC.

The questions I have with my proposed upgrade are:

  1. Is my CPU going to limit in any way what my new GPU can do once it's dropped in? Is there a high risk of a bottleneck?

  2. Is this going to be somewhat future-proof, at least until D4 comes out (if that ever happens)?

  3. Is anyone running a similar setup that can vouch for its performance and viability, or has anyone made similar upgrades and can say it's a big difference?
