Diablo 3

The Fate of Heroes (D1-3, D:I)

diablo13 - The Fate of Heroes (D1-3, D:I)

So let's break this down:

Diablo:

  • Warrior: Pops Diablo's Soulstone in his head and becomes the Dark Wanderer during D2. D3 retcons him to be Prince Aidan of Khanduras, Leoric's son and Albrecht's brother.
  • Rogue: Corrupted by the Evils and destroys the Rogue Monastery, becoming Blood Raven. Killed by the D2 party. Later revealed her name was Moreina.
  • Sorcerer: Corrupted by the Evils and/or gets possessed by Horazon, invading the Arcane Sanctuary and becoming the Summoner. Killed by the D2 party. Later revealed his name was Jazreth.

Diablo II:

  • Assassin: Unknown. Speculation is high that it may have been Natalya, who we know later helped create the Demon Hunters.
  • Amazon: Revealed in Heroes of the Storm as Cassia. Returned to Skovos to raise an army in anticipation of the Evils' return. Apparently still active there, though no idea if she survives all of Malthael's shenanigans with the Reapers.
  • Barbarian: Unknown. Early concepts for D3 indicated that the male D3 Barb WAS the D2 Barb, but this was dropped when it was determined that his story would be too different from all of the other playable characters.
  • Druid: Unknown. One could speculate that the "Night Howler" mobs in the Shrouded Moors may have something to do with the druid orders. Scosglen is the druid stronghold, and the Night Howlers are identified as appearing first in the lands near Scosglen.
  • Necromancer: Revealed in Heroes of the Storm as Xul. Referenced by Mehtan as his master in the Order of Rathma, and presumably trained the D3 Necromancer in some capacity. He appears to still be active during and after Reaper of Souls.
  • Paladin: Unknown. It has been confirmed that he became a member of the Knights of Westmarch, but his fate after the events of D2 is unclear.
  • Sorceress: Revealed in the D3 Wizard short story "Firefly" as Isendra, who trains Li-Ming. Killed by an assassin after violating the rules of the Yshari Sanctum.

Diablo III:

  • Barbarian: Sonya, in Heroes of the Storm, is considered the canonic representation of the D3 Barbarian.
  • Witch Doctor: Nazeebo, in Heroes of the Storm, is considered the canonic representation of the Witch Doctor.
  • Wizard: Li-Ming, introduced in the "Firefly" short story and later added to Heroes of the Storm, is considered the canonic representation of the Wizard.
  • Demon Hunter: Valla, introduced in Heroes of the Storm and later stated to be an NPC in Diablo: Immortal, is considered the canonic representation of the Demon Hunter.
  • Monk: Kharazim, introduced in Heroes of the Storm, is considered the canonic representative of the Monk.
  • Crusader: Johanna, in Heroes of the Storm, is considered the canonic representation of the Crusader.
  • Necromancer: Unknown.

Diablo: Immortal

  • Barbarian: Unknown. This barbarian more closely resembles the depiction of the male D3 Barbarian, making it likely that he is NOT the D2 Barb, but also clearly not Sonya.
  • Wizard: Unknown. This wizard very much resembles Li-Ming, but the timeline of D:I (in the period between D2:LoD and D3) doesn't really allow it to be her, as she is presented as fairly young when Isendra is twenty years older than when she faced the Evils during D2.
  • Demon Hunter: Unknown. D:I will apparently explore the origins of the Demon Hunter order, and the presence of Valla as an NPC implies that this character, despite appearances, may not be intended to be Valla.
  • Crusader: Unknown. Visually, this character resembles Johanna strongly, but it is also possible that she is Anajinn, the Crusader identified in the short story for the class, "The End of Her Journey."
  • Monk: Unknown. Visually, this character appears to be darker skinned and does not resemble Kharazim, strongly implying that it is not the same character.
  • Necromancer: Unknown. To a certain extent, this Necromancer resembles the male Necromancer from D3 (certainly moreso than he resembles any depiction of Xul) but it's not made explicit who he is.

To recap: the fates of all three heroes from D1 are known, and they're all dead. The fates of three of the D2 heroes are known, and two of them are presumably still alive post-D3, while the third (Isendra) is confirmed dead. The remaining four heroes are mysteries. Since Diablo: Immortal has precious little information out about it in advance of its release, we know nearly nothing about the heroes of the game, and what relationships they have to any of the other heroes. And the D3 heroes are all Nephalem, all presumably alive at the end of D3:RoS, and all feared broadly by Hell and Heaven alike for their ludicrous power and tenacity.

Am I missing anything?
