Last time I played Diablo 2 was 15 years ago and I bought and played it again today for 12 hours straight, it was that fun. I didn't need any time to adjust to a way older game because it felt just like it did 15 years ago but it's better now with the single player mod Plugy. The game don't feel outdated except for the graphics which is understandable since this game is so old.

If you like to start fresh like a new season of Diablo 3, if you like to farm and feel like you earn your gear, if you want to feel good about your character getting better and better and it's all because of your effort you're putting into farming and if you want to spend thousands of hours like I did as a kid on the game and will spend another thousand hours starting from today on a fun game, then Diablo 2 is the fun ass game you're looking for. Finding gear is no where near as bad as Diablo 3 when it first came out which was pretty damn bad because the game basically made you want to pay real money to get gear that only bots, who were farming 24/7, could get.

Edit: Ok so I didn't expect thing many replies and upvotes so I'll add some extra info. If you do play Diablo 2 single player, you NEED to get the Plungy mod. It has lots of quality of life stuff like infinite stash, unlimited re specs so you can try any build you want without starting a new character like back in the day, you can re allocate your stats any time you want so if you screw up a stat no more creating a new character, just hold shift or alt button I think and click on the stats you want to decrease and add points to another stat. It also has some other additions but I haven't explored all of it yet since I just began playing with the mod. Just youtube or google the mod for more info. I noticed people have a hard time installing the mod and getting it to work, so did I even when watching a video but then I watched another video and it's basically an ELI5 of how to install it:

https://youtu.be/XlLS-BLwKCg . I haven't tried the other mods yet but I probably won't play them for hundreds of hours because I'll be busy with Plugy mod. I don't think I'll be playing online because I heard they are filled with bots now and there aren't that many people playing compared to 10+ years ago

And just youtube "diablo 2 beginner builds" and "diablo 2 beginner tips" and you'll come across many great vids if you're completly new to Diablo 2 or you're coming back after a while. I'd suggest starting with sorceress since she can teleport without needing enigma, an armor which I don't think is easy to get at least early in the game and teleporting will make farming way faster.

Here are some last tips that are very important: stock up on food, water, and diapers in your room because you'll be needing them since you won't leave 5 feet away from your computer cause you'll be so addicted to Diablo 2 that you wouldn't want to leave.
