Obligatory on mobile, sorry ahead of time for grammar/formatting, just had to share this experience with you all. And sorry this is kinda long but there’s a lot I wanna talk about
A couple days ago I saw Fallout 76 on sale for about 30 bucks. This combined with how I’ve been hearing that the game has been getting better, I decided to give it a try.
After having to briefly reset my graphics due to some bugs and moving through the main storyline a bit, I found myself level 8 doing the mask group event, with the parade (idk the name of it rn, sorry) with a bunch of high level peeps.
After completing it, there was this man who was the only one of about 6 others with a mic. I mentioned how boring it was and how I wanted to blow my brains out. He chuckled, and we hit it off.
After the event I told him I was gonna continue the main story (airport responders) and he said he’d come with me to help me out.
He was level 66 and I asked him some questions, one of which was power armor. Specifically, when/where you could get it. He told me level 15 you could get Raider power armor.
That was cool of him as is, but he also helped me clear the airport and gave me some more tips. I said thank you, and was about to leave him but then he asks if I want help getting that power armor. (Keep in mind that I’m level 8, and would need another 7 levels to get the armor) I say sure, why not.
I’ll spare you all the details but, after about 4 hours of grinding high level areas with his help, I walked away with level 15 and a shit ton of weapons that were way above my level but useful to have later. I thanked him profusely.
Best part about it? He wasn’t done yet. Once we hit 15 he logged onto his main character (216 btw) and crafted me a full set of hardened metal armor, again something I shouldn’t really have yet, along with a sick ass bat and rifle (again, don’t remember their names rn). Finally, we tried to look for the raider power armor but all the spawns didn’t have it lol.
In the end though, the real reward was being able to meet this guy in the first place. During our grind, I learned that he was an older gent, who had been in the navy and was on pension for his service. And he lives in the same state as me!
Kachenko, if you’re out there somewhere, thank you for making me fall in love with this game, thank you for helping a noob like me out, and thank you for your service to our country. You’re truly an amazing person, and probably the best person I’ve ever had the pleasure of playing a video game with. Stay awesome
