Archaeology tips aka fossils, fedoras, and foxes… oh my!

fallout 76 discussion and inform - Archaeology tips aka fossils, fedoras, and foxes... oh my!

So a few aspects of this Possum challenge are kind of wonky so I figures I'd post some quick tips. If you know where to go and what to do this is actually one of the easiest possum badges to earn.

  1. Magnifying glasses are pretty common but if you can't find one check the bungalows of Whitesprings north of the country club. there's a sign out front that says "artisans row" and one of the shops has a magnifying glass inside. There's also usually a few inside the main building where the shops are in the seating areas near the newstand as well.
  2. The fedora is another weird one as it seems not every fedora counts. But you can actually kill 2 birds with 1 stone by going here:
86JKBHJ - Archaeology tips aka fossils, fedoras, and foxes... oh my!https://i.imgur.com/86JKBHJ.png?1 – there is a skeleton with a "battered" fedora that seems to work. Additionally you can take a photo of the fossils there to complete this part.
    1. A quick note on the photo: you need the prosnap camera from the "bucket list" questline and normal old school photomode doesn't work. Also it's CRITICAL you see the word "Fossils" in the actual camera viewfinder for this to complete!!
    2. I've also heard the white wolf fedora and silver shroud fedoras work. and the "Crumpled" fedora doesn't seem to work at all.
  3. There's a ton of spots to find bones while wearing the fedora, but I suggest killing 2 birds with one stone yet again. One of the locations you need to visit is the Wendingo cave which is chock full of bone chimes and bones everywhere so just explore the place and disarm every bone chime you find until you get the check mark. Lookout for the mirelurk kings in there, and aim for the face! Another easy way is to make bone chimes at your camp or go to the medical supply map pin in the far east side of the map (Braxon's iirc).
  4. You can find some foxes to make sweet delicious jerky at big freds bbq, its northeast of Whitesprings and south east of top of the world. Protip: Use "butchers bounty" to get it done faster and minimize the horrible murder of cute adorable foxes. You gotta "search" the body to potentially find bonus meat with the perk.
    1. Once you are done ponder on the fact you just killed a cuddly and peaceful forest creature for a friggin pioneer scout badge, you monster!!
  5. For the test there are a ton of locations online to find answers to the tests, here's one that seems pretty decent and helped me: https://fallout.gamepedia.com/Pioneer_Scout_Badge_Exam_answers#Archaeologist
  6. To help finding treasure with maps kudos to u/dulfy and this super awesome amazing Treasure map locations guide: https://www.reddit.com/r/fo76/comments/a2frid/guide_all_treasure_maps_locations/

Those are the main bits that might be confusing,. Ever upwards!
