Here is my story, I tell it in hopes that something would improve with customer service or the game in general. Some of this is my fault I will admit some of it is clearly not, but in the end I am worried about playing Fallout 76 now that I have it running and getting banned and having my $60 wasted or waiting to play it in hopes that some day a patch will come along to resolve my issue.

I purchased FO76 for PC a few weeks ago, I was running an i5 6400, 16GB DDR4, and a GTX 1080. I also have a 21:9 Ultra wide monitor. Every time I tried to boot the game up I would see a black box pop up and then then disappear with out any error code. I did what anyone with an ounce of PC game cred would do, run scan and repair. No good. Uninstall/Reinstall (50gb download again oof!). Still no good. Uninstalled game, and launcher and game (50gb again oof!). STILL NOTHING!

I submitted a ticket, and Bethesda support basically keep copy pasting sections from their FAQ section. I am not sure if this speaks to quality of their FAQ or their support. In the end they didn't read my notes on the ticket, because they told me to do what I already did. Finally they just said this:

"The minimum requirement is below Intel Core i5-6600k 3.5 GHz This can be the root of many issues as well."

OK, most people would call it quits here. NOT I!!!! Also I wanted to upgrade my cpu and motherboard and this was a decent excuse. So I went to an AMD Ryzen 5 2600 CPU, and MSI X470 motherboard. Well beyond the recommended minimum for the game. So it is time to redownload and reinstall Fallout 76, for the 3rd time. Now I am getting an error, which is frustration, but hey its progress.

"Fallout 76 Failed to Launch, Please Validate files (2.19.740.16.10.2583)"

So I took a screenshot and emailed Bethesda Support again under the same ticket. They said this:

"Fallout 76 does not currently support 21:9. Keep an eye on our website and Twitter for updates on when 21:9 will be made available."

OK so I have a lead on where to look to find my issue. After some googling, I came across a simple .ini file edit to support my monitor. AND BOOM!!!! I am in the game, and it is running pretty smooth! Curious on if this simple 2 number edit would get me flagged by the anti-cheat systems I shot another email back to Bethesda Support. It DID NOT GO WELL!

SO NOW I HAVE A GAME I CAN'T PLAY BECAUSE IT IS BUGGED, OR I HAVE TO GET A NEW MONITOR, OR I PLAY THE GAME AND RISK A BAN BECAUSE I HAD TO RIG IT UP TO WORK ON MY PC?????

Bethesda…. I want to play your game. I did enjoy the short time I have played it, but I am scared to run it now. How is this good customer support?

I am aware of the upcoming patches on 12/4 and 12/11 respectively, but I thought that this story needed to be shared in case these patches do not resolve some key issues.

If you have gotten this far, please note, I am not asking for a refund, or saying that I am going to jump on the class action lawsuit bandwagon. I am asking for Bethesda to have a little more consideration on how they deal with what I think is a reasonable customer, and all I want to do is play some more Fallout 76.

If a Bethesda team member reads this, keep my money, I see it as an investment, but seriously my take away from all this is in the TL;DR.

TL;DR DO NOT TRY TO FIX YOUR GAME, YOU MIGHT GET BANNED

SIDE NOTE: I do have a PDF of everything and if need be I can post everything that was said to Bethesda. The last email was sent yesterday around 7pm central time, and I have not heard back since.

    Shhhhh…. God can hear you! ūüėČ in all seriousness tho, one of the few AWESOME BethNet CS/TS people helped me to make “similar adjustments” when I kept getting that same error code. Unfortunately, with each reply (to them or coming from them) you’re left to start all over with the next (USUALLY A GIANT) “wad” who doesn’t have time to be bothered into doing their job. Luckily, I was informed to be careful of what I would mention in responding to the ticket, or this joker would’a had my hide…and that’s AFTER one of their own employees instructed me to “fix” my issue.
    Luckily, BethNet isn’t as big-n-bad as they’d like people to think they are. Yes!! I LOVE THEIR GAMES… but no, they don’t have their hands in the ‘big brother honey-pot’, so they can’t take a gander at your pc in any way that you would need to worry about whether or not it’s safe to play your game. Especially not for the reason that you were ‘scolded’ for!
