I have been a big fan of the Fallout universe since I put an ungodly amount of hours into Fallout 3 when it came out. As the title states, I never got around to playing New Vegas, and I remember at the time being put off about the fact that it wasn’t developed by Bethesda. However, recently I’ve seen some posts here and there that have led me to believe that maybe I have been missing out.
So I really have a few questions here, to ultimately help me decide if it’s worth it for me to buy it and play it.
My first question would be, given that I love Bethesda Game Studios style of open world games like Fallout 3, Fallout 4, Oblivion, Skyrim, etc., how different does this game feel, having been developed by Obsidian? It’s not as if being developed by BGS is a prerequisite for me playing an open world game, but I’m hoping that New Vegas still has at least a familiar feel to it. Also, what sort of differences, if any, make it better, or worse, than a Bethesda developed Fallout game? Are there many different mechanics to gameplay?
Second, if I were to pick it up, would I be better off picking it up on backwards compatibility on my Xbox one, or on PC? I would imagine that the ability to play with mods would make the experience on PC more than likely significantly more enjoyable, however, the laptop I have is pretty old, and I’m not in a position at the moment to get anything new. Im not sure what exactly the stats on my computer are, but do know that it’s unable to run Skyrim, so I have a feeling that New Vegas would probably not run either.
Third, and finally, how does this game hold up? If I were to play it, would it be so obvious that it’s a very old game that it would take away from the experience? I still regularly go back to Skyrim SE on Xbox one, but I’m not sure how much I’d be able to enjoy the 360 version if that were all I had to play, given the very dated graphics among other things.
Any opinions are appreciated, just trying to get a general feeling of people’s thoughts on what I have heard is very much a classic. Thanks!
