Speculation of a possibly unintended connection between robobrains and the myth of the monkeys paw

fallout 6 - Speculation of a possibly unintended connection between robobrains and the myth of the monkeys paw

So we all probably know the myth at this point of the monkeys paw which grants you wishes in unintended but generally horrifyingly adverse ways.

As most of us should know, robo brains were speculated (and obviously guaranteed) to hold the brains of prisoners, obviously no longer seen as having rights in pre-war America.

It was also speculated that some of them are also the brains of monkeys. Regardless of which, all (besides a certain vault in far harbor) are preprogrammed personalities in mind wiped brains. The brains are essentially just treated like something of an organic CPU. Which in many respects, is honestly phenomenal as an advance of science.

It seems that a lot of sentient brain-jar types that didn't get mind wiped are often anti-social anyway. The brains at Big MT, the murder in the vault, and even properly unique personalities like our friend from automatron.

Back on point – robo brains are inherently flawed. Some seem to do their job perfectly as long as it's a job you can't majorly fu*k up.

But in automatron they are given a job they are fully incapable of carrying out altruistically – "protect the common wealth"

With safety of others in mind, the mechanist naively wishes on the monkeys paw that is robo-brains to save the wastelanders – which promptly results in them deducing that life and existence are painful experiences, and they can only save the common wealth by ending the lives of everyone they see.

Kind of a stretchy connection, but the fu*ked-up "wish granted" aspect combined with some robo brains having monkey brains (or not actually having monkey brains and that story only being used as a cover up) there is at least some resonance with the story of the monkeys paw.

Fu*k why did i even write this
