Yab’s Mirror Run (a guide to find the two rarest plans in-game)

Say what? Yup, the two rarest “plans” currently attainable in-game are actually recipes and can only be found in the mirrors of the Cranberry Bog and the Mire—The Healing Salves.

Here’s a run-through to find them and a few extra things I add into my Mirror Run to make it more productive than just focusing solely on mirrors (which, let’s face it, quickly becomes tedious).

Ready, Set…Go!

I start each run at the Enclave Bunker where I collect Tech Data from one of the desks (if this is new to you, the quest “Forbidden Knowledge” has the currently available BoS T-60 paint plans—among other things—as possible rewards). There are many desks to be found in the Military Wing; I also take the time to get the relevant bug parts out of my stash so I can include the “Stings-N-Things” daily quest as part of the run…one has the opportunity to use the Surveillance System Terminal to start the repeatable “Hide and Seek and Destroy” quest to get a nuclear keycard, and see if The Armory MODUS has any rare X-01 mods for sale.

Fort Defiance—Bog Salve Recipe.

I usually stand hidden just inside the front entrance until the permanent feral ghoul corpse loads-in by the southern corridor door. This is just to give all the mobs a chance to be visible and reduces the chance of standing at a mirror waiting to its contents to load.

Take a right, proceed down the southern corridor until you reach a pile of debris with a gurney and wheelchair—the 1st mirror is in the room on your left next to a fire extinguisher.

Head north (back the way you came) and go through two broken walls into a bathroom—2nd and 3rd mirrors.

Continue north and take the first right—4th and 5th mirrors are on the north wall by the bathtubs.

Run north, through the entrance foyer, and down the northern corridor until you pass under the BoS flag…if you keep heading north there will be a kitchen on your right and a open door leading to a bathroom on your left—6th and 7th mirrors are in here (also a good opportunity to pick up radroach meat for Stings-N-Things).

Continue north and enter the open doorway on your right at the end of the corridor (right before the broken terminal). In the room with the bathtubs there’s a broken section of wall which you can jump through, the first open door on your right leads to the 8th and 9th mirrors on the western wall.

We’re done with the ground floor! Go back through the hole in the wall and head south to where the elevator is (on your left just before you get back to the entrance foyer) go to the 3rd floor.

Here’s where we get to diversify and check the three red asylum uniform spots!

Directly across the corridor as you exit the elevator is a room with bunk beds…a possible uniform spawn is on the bottom bunk of the first bed-set you see.

Head west down the corridor. At the end the room in your right will have another uniform spawn (bottom bed of the second bunk bed on your right). Across from that room is a bathroom where you’ll find the 10th and 11th mirrors as well as the last uniform spawn location on the wooden bench in the shower area.

When you exit the bathroom there is an open door with the BoS insignia on it, go through it and head northwest through the broken wall, passed the “kennel-cage” annex area…the first closed door in your right leads to a bathroom where you’ll find the 12th and 13th mirrors on the south wall. There is also a very productive Nuka-cola machine in one of the bathroom stalls.

There are more mirrors inside the Asylum and in the Bog Zone generally but there is really no reason to take the time to search them. The 2nd floor has a bathroom with two mirrors and the 4th floor has a bathroom with one…there are also 3-4 mirrors on the ground scattered around the building but the 13 I’ve listed are easiest for a quick and fluid run.

Mire Salve Recipe.

Now you’re after the Mire Salve…I’m sorry, but it wouldn’t be the single rarest “plan” in-game if it wasn’t tedious and difficult. If you want to make it quicker you can skip all the bunkers I list just to cut down on load screens.

Camp Venture.

Head directly southwest into the camp…the the first cabin on your left is a bathroom. There are three mirrors in here but the right and middle mirrors are coded to always be empty. The 1st mirror is the one on the left. While you’re here it’s a good opportunity to turn in your Tech Data!

Ransacked Bunker.

Once you’re in the bunker basement there is a bathroom on the west end with the 2nd mirror.

Berkeley Springs.

Head directly west from the fast-travel point until you reach a dilapidated trailer… the 3rd mirror is on your left above a sink with a gas mask in it.

Abandoned Waste Dump.

Okay…I always skip this one but I’m including in here so all the possible Mire Salve Mirror spots are listed. Once inside get passed the Deathclaws to the elevator (directly west of the entrance). When you reach the bottom floor take the door in front of you (north), then the door on your left…the 4th mirror is in the bathroom on your left.

Power Pylon Bunker via Haven Church.

Haven Church is the fast-travel point I use. Run northeast passed the church until you see the power line pylon which should be more or less in front of you or slightly on your left. If you go down the ramp heading north there will be a bathtub on your right and a sink…the 5th mirror is above the sink.

Releigh Clay’s Bunker.

I just exit the Pylon area and run to Releigh’s bunker, it’s just as quick as a fast-travel. Once in the basement take a left up the stairs…on the north is a bathroom with the 6th mirror.

Carson Family Bunker.

In the basement you’ll find a bathroom on your right (west) with the 7th mirror.

Dolly Sods Wilderness.

Here’s an opportunity to turn in the bug-parts for Stings-N-Things at the Rec-Center and take a stab at a possum badge! To the west and slightly south of the Rec-Center is a big house up the hill. On your right (north) as you enter the ground floor is a bathroom with the 8th mirror inside on east behind the open door.

Excelsior Model Home.

Get ready for a fight (or to be very sneaky) because there is always a ruckus going on here. Once you’re inside the ruined house—the inundated “ground floor”—you’ll find the 9th mirror in the southwestern corner (west wall).

Ella Ames’ Bunker.

It’s quickest to run west from Excelsior to Ella’s bunker. The 10th mirror is in a bathroom on the north side of the basement.

Abbie’s Bunker.

95% of the time you’ll have to hack a terminal to enter the bunker. The 11th mirror is in the basement bathroom on the west side.

Conclusion and helpful tips.

So far as I know these are all the “active” mirrors that will spawn Mire Salve recipe. It may be that one can search Vault 94 mirrors for the Mire Salve but I have no conclusive evidence that this is viable.

For some reason it seems that I run into more empty mirrors when I use a private server than I do on a public one…ditto the Asylum Uniform spawn points almost always seem to be empty on private servers so for this reason I always do my runs on public servers.

Neither of my characters are melee-centric but I perk out with the best Sneak/Melee perks and gear I have just to save ammo and avoid mobs when I can…it speeds things along for me.

Happy Hunting Y’all!
