Basic Automated Sentinel Edifice or B.A.S.E.
The B.A.S.E. ability is the strongest trait of the Constructor Class and the staple of an effective objective defense. B.A.S.E. has some powerful effects on its own, but the use of a range of Hero perks can greatly increase its power, making it an essential tool in Storm Shield Defenses and higher level missions. In this short manual I will discuss the effects of B.A.S.E., how and where to place it, the mechanics of its range of effect, relevant perks and how to set up your own B.A.S.E. to suit your play style and mission.
What is B.A.S.E.
B.A.S.E. (Basic Automated Sentinel Edifice) is a class ability to the Constructor Class, meaning that every Constructor Hero has access to it. It takes the form of a small tower with four arms extending outwards in the underlying structure, centred on a 1×1 floor tile.

Its basic effect and operation is concisely described in the game;
Place B.A.S.E. to reinforce attached structures with 60 Armor. Extends 4 segments from placement. Placed from trap wheel.
Armor reduces the damage taken by affected structures, so you see that B.A.S.E. always strengthens the structures under its effects regardless of your Hero Loadout. Its range of effect and placement mechanic will be discussed in the following two sections.
Range of effect
Let's start with a formal definition;
A structure piece is under the effect of B.A.S.E. if the shortest path along your build between the structure piece carrying B.A.S.E. and the structure piece of concern is less or equal to X-1 structure pieces. Here X is the maximum range of the B.A.S.E..
How does this work practically? It means that if, for instance, the range of your B.A.S.E. is 4 structures, there have to be 3 structures or less directly connecting a specific structure piece to B.A.S.E. (with the structure piece of interest being the 4th piece in the chain at the most) for it to be under influence of B.A.S.E.. A 5th structure piece attached to the 4th piece will not be under the influence of B.A.S.E. if there is no other shorter path connecting it to B.A.S.E.. Two structures are connected only when two edges are joined, so you can never have B.A.S.E. connectivity flowing between two diagonally adjacent structures if they are not otherwise connected. Structure pieces under the influence of B.A.S.E. can be recognised from the extra reinforcement around them.
You can place B.A.S.E. like a trap, from the Floor tab on the Trap Wheel. You can check your key binds how to access this, but on console it is usually accessed by holding the trap placement button. B.A.S.E. can only be placed on a pre-existing floor structure.
When using your B.A.S.E. to reinforce an objective, you want to place it in a central position so that it reaches the maximum number of important structures, without significantly wasting range on a side where you don't need it. This might mean putting it on top of the objective, or slightly off to the side on the ground. You can replace your B.A.S.E. indefinitely so move it around if you're not content. When playing with multiple Constructors on one mission, the situation might ask for either of you to place a B.A.S.E. to reinforce some trap tunnels. Here the same concepts apply; try to maximise the useful range.
Listed here are all the heroes and their perks that affect the effects and mechanics of B.A.S.E.; Standard Perks are described with the Commander Perk bonus set in bold-face and between parentheses. E.g. Mega B.A.S.E. as a Standard Perk extends B.A.S.E. connectivity range by 1, but as a Commander Perk it extends connectivity range by 3.
|Electro-Pulse Penny||Fully Contained||Enemies that melee attack structures affected by B.A.S.E take 15 (44) base damage.|
|Power B.A.S.E. Knox (Kyle/Penny)||Power Modulation||Structures affected by B.A.S.E. are healed for 4% (11%) of Max Health every 10 seconds.|
|MEGA B.A.S.E. Kyle||Mega B.A.S.E.||Increases B.A.S.E. connectivity range by 1 (3).|
|B.A.S.E. Kyle||Lofty Architecture||B.A.S.E. increases Building Health by 28% (84%).|
|Warden Kyle||B.A.S.E. M.D.||Allies standing on structures affected by your B.A.S.E. heal for 3.75 (11.25) base Health every 1 seconds.|
|The Ice King||Frozen Castle||Enemies standing on structures affected by B.A.S.E. are Snared by 15%. (Enemies that damage a structure affected by B.A.S.E. are Frozen for 4 seconds. Each enemy can be Frozen once every 15 seconds.)|
|Thunder Thora||Electrified Floors||Enemies standing on structures affected by B.A.S.E. take 12.7 (38.1) base Energy Damage every 5 seconds.|
|Heavy B.A.S.E. Kyle||Feel The B.A.S.E.||Eliminating enemies standing on structures affected by B.A.S.E. charges B.A.S.E. After 30 charges B.A.S.E. emits an explosion which knocks back enemies and deals 39 (89) base Energy Damage in a 3 (5) tile Radius.|
The following table lists all Team Perks which affect the effects and mechanics of B.A.S.E., including descriptions, Hero Loadout requirements and how to unlock each Team Perk.
|Team Perk||Description||Requirements||How to unlock|
|Boom B.A.S.E.||B.A.S.E. blasts Steel Wool music, increasing Damage by 12% and Critical Rating by 15 for allies within 5 tiles.||2 Steel Wool Heroes||Acquire Steel Wool Syd|
|Recycling||B.A.S.E. generates resources based on affected structures. Higher tier structures generate more resources. Interact with B.A.S.E. to collect.||2 Constructors||Complete Constructor Side Questline|
|Supercharged Traps||For each Constructor in your Hero Loadout increases Damage of traps affected by B.A.S.E. by 8.5%.||At least 1 Constructor||Acquire MEGA B.A.S.E. Kyle|
When setting up your own B.A.S.E. Loadout, the first and foremost consideration is of course which Heroes you have available. If you're just starting out, you might have a handful of Constructors, but this will grow quickly if you keep an eye out for llamas and the rotating event store.
The second question to ask yourself is; what do I need this B.A.S.E. to do?
If you aim to play small objectives you might want to go with an offensive build using Fully Contained, Electrified Floors and Supercharged Traps or maybe Boom B.A.S.E., but for an event like Frostnite it might be a game changer to include B.A.S.E. M.D. and Recycling in your Loadout. If you have it available MEGA B.A.S.E. is always a good inclusion, and Power Modulation and Lofty Architecture are the staples for an almost impenetrable build. Most of this comes down to personal preference and the situation you find yourself in, so just experiment!
This concludes this manual; I hope you now have the knowledge to set up your B.A.S.E. to your own vision.
Good luck saving the World!
