Introduction

I made a guide about the Dragon subclass not too long ago before the hero-rework. That guide is now outdated due to the major hero changes we received. However, I will be focusing on Whirlwind Scorch as well. Whirlwind Scorch is a pretty fun and underrated hero. He definitely isn't the best ninja, but he is fun and can be useful in certain situations.

Dragon Scorch

Dragon Scorch focuses on his primary ability, Dragon Slash. This ability focuses on killing and damaging large groups of enemies. Dragon Scorch's commander perk, Wings of the Dragon, gives a pretty big buff to the ability. Wings of the Dragon increases both the width and length of the ability, along with the damage. Sarah Hotep commander perk focuses on Dragon Slash as well, however her commander perk focuses on saving energy rather than buffing the actual ability.

Dragon Slash

As previously stated, Dragon Slash is the primary ability of Dragon Scorch. There are a few perks that you can use to buff this ability and its convenience, however there is something I would like to mention about this ability. This ability can kill or damage enemies through walls with it's edged damage and it can also kill or damage enemies that are in close range below or above the path of your Dragon Slash. This is very useful in certain situations where there may be a wall or floor separating you and your enemies.

Perks that buff Dragon Slash and make it more convenient to use

  • Snuggle Specialist Sarah – Tail of the Dragon – Dragon Slash leaves a persistent trail of energy, dealing damage to enemies in the trail. This is a perk I would highly recommend you use on Dragon Scorch. It deals a good amount of damage and can finish the enemies that were left undefeated by your Dragon Slash.
  • Sarah Hotep – Return of the DragonReduces the cost of Dragon Slash by 30%. This perk is not a necessity, but I would personally recommend it as it saves energy which you could use for your Smoke Bomb and shurikens, which I will discuss later. Also, nature husks drain your energy which can prevent you from using your Dragon Slash. With this perk, you will need less energy to use your Dragon Slash which will be useful when going against nature husks.

Shurikens/Throwing Stars

While I don't use Shurikens too often, they can be useful. They can be used to deal damage to enemies in a pinch when you are unable to reload or use your weapons, or it can be used to pick off enemies from a distance. This ability has a low cool down which makes it convenient to use. There are a few perks you can use to buff this ability. Shurikens may not be the best ability, especially on Scorch, however they can be buffed and could be even more useful and convenient with the few listed perks.

  • Swift Shuriken Llamurai – Reduces the cooldown of Throwing Stars
  • Shuriken Master Sarah – Throws additional Throwing Stars.
  • Skirmisher Edge – Reduces the energy cost of Throwing Stars
  • Deadly Star Scorpion – Throwing Stars afflict their targets, dealing Energy damage over time.
  • The Cloaked Star – All throwing stars are thrown instantly in a spreading arc, and adds additional throwing stars

Smoke Bomb

This ability is my second favorite to use on Dragon Scorch. It has a decent radius, damages enemies, applies affliction damage, and snares enemies that are in the radius. You can buff this ability even more and make it much more convenient to use. You could lower the cooldown, increase the radius, or even give the smoke bomb healing properties! Here are the perks you can use to buff this ability.

  • Alchemist Sarah – Smoke Bomb now heals allies who enter the affected area
  • Infiltrator Ken – Increases the radius of Smoke Bomb
  • Plague Doctor Igor – Reduces the cost of Smoke Bomb
  • Dim Mak Mari – Reduces the cooldown of Smoke Bomb

Shadow Stance

Shadow Stance is a big part of ninjas. Before v8.00, using your ninja abilities would proc Shadow Stance. That is now not the case. You need to use melee kills to activate Shadow Stance. Shadow Stance can be very useful, especially with the perks that buff it. There is one amazing team perk given by Bladestorm Enforcer that increases your Shadow Stance duration by 4 seconds for each ninja in your hero loadout. This can give you up to 24 seconds of Shadow Stance. Combine this with perks that buff your Shadow Stance and you will be powerful. Here are perks that buff this ability.

  • Cloaked Shadow – While in Shadow Stance, gain an aura that deals damage to enemies around the player.
  • Swordmaster Ken – Do an additional sword damage while Shadow Stance is active.

Here's the thing I love about the Hero Rework. You can use any weapons or buff any ability you want. There is so much flexibility. Use whatever you find fun and fits your playstyle most. Now, I can recommend one build. This build focuses on melee and can be pretty powerful and simple to use.

Commander: Dragon Scorch

Team Perk: Endless Shadow

Snuggle Specialist Sarah – Dragon Slash leaves a persistent trail of energy, dealing damage to enemies

Sarah Hotep – Reduces the cost of Dragon Slash

Alchemist Sarah – Smoke Bomb now heals allies who enter the affected area OR Survivalist Jonesy – Kills regain base health

Whiteout Fiona – Increases axe, scythe, and sword critical rating

Cloaked Shadow – While in Shadow Stance, gain an aura that deals damage to enemies around the player.

This build focuses on buffing your Dragon Slash and focuses on melee and activating your shadow stance. You will have an insane amount of Shadow Stance up time (which can be a bit of a overkill). This with the Cloaked Shadow perk that gives you a damaging aura will be useful since you will be using melee against husks. If you are low on health, you can use your Smoke Bomb to regain health.

Whirlwind Scorch

Whirlwind Scorch focuses on his crescent kick which is useful for damaging and stunning enemies. His commander perk increases the impact of Crescent Kick and stuns the enemy hit by crescent kick.

Crescent Kick

Crescent Kick is the ability that Whirlwind Scorch's commander perk focuses on. This ability is very useful if you are using melee due to it stunning and staggering the enemy. This ability is especially useful against Smashers due to its great impact and stun. There are a few perks that buff this ability.

  • Brawler Luna – Reduce the cooldown of Crescent Kick
  • Stonefoot Crash – Increases Crescent Kick damage
  • Energy Thief Mari – Crescent Kick will return energy for every enemy hit by it.

Smokebomb

As previously discussed, this ability is useful for snaring enemies and dealing affliction damage. You can use different perks to buff this ability and give it more benefits such as healing. These are the perks that buff this ability.

Dragon Slash

As previously stated, this ability is useful for clearing out and damaging large groups of husks. You can buff this ability using different perks. These are the perks that buff this ability.

  • Dragon Scorch – Increases the length of Dragon Slash
  • Sarah Hotep – Return of the DragonReduces the cost of Dragon Slash by 30%. This perk is not a necessity, but I would personally recommend it as it saves energy which you could use for your Smoke Bomb and shurikens, which I will discuss later. Also, nature husks drain your energy which can prevent you from using your Dragon Slash. With this perk, you will need less energy to use your Dragon Slash which will be useful when going against nature husks.

Loadouts

I primarily use melee on Whirlwind Scorch and focus on his Crescent Kick due to his stunning ability. If you want to focus on your Dragon Slash, I would recommend using Dragon Scorch.

Commander: Whirlwind Scorch

Team Perk: Top It Off/Praying Mantis/Endless Shadow

  • Brawler Luna – Reduce the cooldown of Crescent Kick
  • Whiteout Fiona – Increases axe, scythe, and sword critical rating
  • Assassination – Dealing melee damage increases damage dealt by melee weapons
  • Survivalist Jonesy – Eliminating enemies restores health over time
  • Perk of your choice

I hope you enjoyed this guide! I rarely write guides but wanted to take the opportunity to write a updated one for both Whirlwind Scorch and Dragon Scorch due to the major hero changes we got. I am taking suggestions and feedback and will gladly update this guide again if there are any errors or changes that should be made!
