Harvester Sarah: Best in Slot Support and Perks for Elegant Scythe vs Physical

Edit /Finished: Edit was due to incorrect values in tables, perks and support slot were still the same. Corrected values in tables are just very very very sad.

Welcome to the post 4.2 world where you can sort of choose your perks (but not really). You're probably aware by now that Harvester effectively got kicked in the nuts twice (if Sarah was male).

  • There are only 3 scythes in the game, 2 of them have 'energy passive', meaning you're stuck with energy (zero choice)
  • Critical hit chance became critical rating, and well, we know how sad this is.

Anyone who bothers to read my stuff probably knows the drill by now, but today we're finding out what the best in slot perks and support slots are for Harvester Sarah using an Elegant Scythe vs a Tanky Physical Husk (e.g. mini-boss).

Scenario Assumptions

  • 45% debil shots has 100% up-time on the target (it's a pain to show 0%, 15%, 27% and 45% so I'm just doing the top one)
  • Conditionals have 100% up time (and it's not like it wouldn't be if you were meleeing anyway due to Harvester applying a snare)
  • Tactical Slot is Deadly Blade (for Corrosion)
  • Crystal Version of an Elegant Scythe is used.
  • Against a Physical target you obviously have a 'Element: Physical'
  • All perks are at max values (level 5)
  • If I haven't listed a perk for a particular slot, it's because it really doesn't matter and it's fundamentally up to the user to figure out what they want (things like 'leech life', or 'movement speed', etc)

I'm not going to give you a detailed explanation of crit-rating because it's irrelevant and the important stuff is listed here. The perks being tested are pretty much the ones listed by /u/DivinityCat here. I don't actually have an elegant scythe of my own, but I'm going to assume that the melee perks are all valid and accurate.

Discussion

I need to make a clarification that the 'DPS Total' calculations assume that Corrosion is applied. I've listed how likely it is you will have corrosion 'drop' (because you don't crit at all during the 3 seconds to refresh it). I also did 'try' simulations using the 'attack speed' perk however none of those ended up at the 'best' for dps or damage per hit (attack speed does come up within the top 3 of certain combinations though).

The most shocking part about this is that the damage (when fully maxed) is actual comparable to the old best-in-slot values. You can read about the old best in slot values (pre 4.2) here After fixing the table due to debil shot calculations it turns out that there's been a massive performance nerf (compared to pre 4.2). The perks and support slots are still the same (as before I fixed the table), it's just the actual dps values and stuff are much much lower.

The Important Stuff

  • Anatomy Lessons in Support is your best choice regardless of whether you're going for DPS or Avg Damage/hit
  • The 'order' of best in slots has completely flipped from pre-patch 4.2 for vsing physical targets
  • Supports: Deadly Blade/Harvester > Brawler > Swordmaster
  • It is highly likely that you won't crit at in 3 second to be able to refresh Corrosion (you might be lucky, but the chance it will fall off is still insanely high, all things considered).

You don't really get a choice about your level 25 perk, but given the choice between schematics with 30% snare, or Affliction, take the Snare. The perk snare stacks with Harvester's own and Corrosion (assuming you can apply it) which completely cripples the movement capabilities of the husks you have attacked. The utility value (being able to stop the husk getting to your defenses in the first place) is far far more valuable than the extra bit of dps, especially if you're under-powered for the content (e.g. p70 vs p100 husks). Time is the most valuable stat in Fortnite.

Conclusion

Whilst you can technically do more or less the same damage output as you could pre-patch (and more people will now be able to get a weapon that lets them do so). After correcting the values (mistakenly doubled-up on debil shots) it turns out that 'best in slot' pre patch put out 40% more dps than it does post 4.2

Patch 4.2 was a really terrible a castration patch for melee. Pre-patch, melee was very competitive (and in many cases outright beat things like Soldiers in single target and area of effect damage). Post 4.2, melee is stuck with more or less the same results (because your output is the same) where-as ranged weapons all benefited from the 5% crit chance increase and boosts to headshot. melee is significantly worse than pre 4.2.
