Last spring I was diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder. While I won't dive into specifics I had a traumatic incident that started triggering daily panic attacks/nightmares for me for a weeks after the incident. I got professional help and met with a therapist to set up a recovery plan. I cut caffeine, started working out more often, read up on ways to grow from the incident, talked about anxiety with loved ones, etc. Since then I've been on a better and stronger path but I can still lapse into moments of anxiousness and panic. It's been an odd road, but it's getting better.
When I was in the midst of my recovery planning and processing though I decided to buy STW as a BR player. BR was getting too stressful and hectic for me and a PVE style game seemed like a good way to relax. I liked CoD Zombies and other zombie (yes, I know they're husks) survival games so STW seemed like a natural fit. And it turned out to be a great fit for me and what I needed at that time in my life. The base building, grinding for upgrades, and hilarious (if yet cheesy) dialogue has really been a saving grace for me the last year. While it can be tense to beat some missions I find it relaxing overall and like flexing my creative juices figuring out fun new tunnels and strategies. I mostly play Constructor because no one else seems too — but I like building a great base/tunnels for my team and helping them beat stuff.
STW has given me a great creative and relaxing outlet to refocus my anxious energy when I feel it coming on. I just wanted to say thanks to /u/Magyst and ask if you could tell the STW dev team my little story here I'd greatly appreciate. I know this subreddit has it's feedback and sometimes other… commentary, but even with all its faults this game has been a lifesaver for me and I love it so much. I look forward to seeing where it goes and how it improves over time — I know you guys are working on things enhance the game you're passionate about.
Anyways, thanks for listening and enjoy destroying those husks!
Edit: Thanks for the overwhelming positive feedback everyone. It's great to see and read how much games have helped others. We have a wonderful little community here. To the haters who've private messaged me, I sincerely hope you find something healthier and more productive to do with your time. It sounds like your anger stems from your own issues and taking it out on random people on the internet isn't helping you become a healthier and happier person <3 Talk to someone, I bet you'll feel better.
