The Ultimate Guide to Ninjas in Fortnite: Save the World!

Hello, Commander! Welcome to Fortnite: Save the World! Have you looked at all the hero classes and decided the Ninja class is your favorite, but don’t know where to start? Here are some helpful tips to get you up and running with some hero builds (both beginner and advanced) as well as how to maneuver your way through the fight!

Fantastic Early Game Hero Builds

The following hero builds will consist of heroes and team perks that are available to all, either through recruitment from the collection book, upgrade llamas, or through the hero questlines. Since many of the strongest builds involve heroes and weapons acquired through events, these are intended to take into account brand new players that will not have access to all event heroes. These will focus more on ability damage since Ninja abilities are some of the most fun as well as the best consistent damage. Ability damage is set to scale as you progress through the game, making these builds viable even further into the game.

· Way of the Tireless Dragon

Commander: Dragon Scorch (Increases Dragon Slash range to 3 tiles, width to 2 tiles, and damage by 25%)

Team Perk: Dim Mak (For each Ninja, Shadow Stance regenerates 2.7% Shield per second)

Support Team:

-Survivalist Jonesy (Eliminations heal you for 39 base Health over 3 seconds. Duration refreshes with additional eliminations)

-Shiruken Master Sarah (Adds 1 extra star to Throwing Stars)

-Deadly Star Scorpion (Throwing Stars apply Energy affliction dealing 3 base Energy Damage for 6 seconds. Stacks to a max of 3)

-Assassin Sarah (Dealing Melee Weapon Damage grants 1 stack of Assassination (up to 5 stacks). Assassination lasts 5 seconds and increases Melee Weapon Damage by 4.5%)

-Deadly Blade Crash (Melee critical hits apply 30% Snare and Affliction which deals 37% of Damage dealt each second for 3 seconds)

How to play:

Dragon Scorch has a very powerful dragon slash capable of taking out large groups of enemies, but doesn’t do great damage against larger enemies, so it’s great to pair with a melee weapon of your choice! Since dragon slash has a 10 second cooldown, cut down anything that survives with a powerful combo of affliction dealing attacks by using a critical build melee weapon as well as deadly throwing stars and then dragon slash again! Provides a great mix of crowd control, single target damage, and survivability from Dim Mak and Survivalist.

· Way of the Relentless Storm

Commander: Overtaker Hiro (Kunai Storm eliminations decrease Kunai Storm cooldown by 4.5 seconds)

Team Perk: Dim Mak (Shadow Stance regenerates 2.7% Shield per second)

Support Team:

-Dragon Scorch (Increases Dragon Slash range to 3 tiles)

-Assassin Sarah (Dealing Melee Weapon Damage grants 1 stack of Assassination (up to 5 stacks). Assassination lasts 5 seconds and increases Melee Weapon Damage by 4.5%)

-Survivalist Jonesy (Eliminations heal you for 39 base Health over 3 seconds. Duration refreshes with additional eliminations)

-Dim Mak Mari (Decreases Smoke Bomb Cooldown by 18%)

-Deadly Blade Crash (Melee critical hits apply 30% Snare and Affliction which deals 37% of Damage dealt each second for 3 seconds)

How to play:

Rain down a hail of deadly kunai onto your enemies with Kunai Storm in a wide area and get most or all of your cooldown back by killing just a few enemies! If you happen to miss a few enemies and don’t have Kunai Storm available, unleash a powerful Dragon Slash to clean up the trash, then drop a smoke bomb and vanish as the husks are left to die in your cloud of smoke! Use your melee weapon to take down anything tough enough to survive your abilities, or if you run out of energy. Once you master the Kunai Storm, you’ll be a never-ending, husk-slaying machine!

Top Tier Melee Damage Builds for Advanced Players

The following builds are based the assumption that you are a Save the World veteran with most, if not all heroes and event weapons at your disposal, as well as the resources necessary to fully upgrade the mentioned weapons and heroes. They are focused around putting out the most damage possible with melee weapons and embracing the true spirit of the Ninja!

· Way of the Blinding Fury

Commander: Paleo Luna (Adds 16.5% of Current Health to Melee Weapon Damage)

Team Perk: Blast from the Past (Removes all shield and increases Max Health by 200%. REQUIRES: 2 Dinosaur Heroes)

Support Team:

-Prehistoric Izza (While Shield is depleted, increases Armor by 33)

-Fossil Southie (While Shield is depleted, regenerates 4 Energy per second)

-Assassin Sarah (Dealing Melee Weapon Damage grants 1 stack of Assassination (up to 5 stacks). Assassination lasts 5 seconds and increases Melee Weapon Damage by 4.5%)

-Crossbones Barret (20% chance to find Coconuts in containers. Coconuts restore a chunk of health, heal over time, and increase Damage by 16% for the entire duration of the effect)

-Breakbeat Wildcat (Eliminating 10 enemies in 9 seconds grants Rockin’ Riff which increases damage by 50% and Melee Attack Speed by 32%, decaying over 8 seconds)

Weapon: Spectral Blade

-Attack Speed

-Damage

-Element: Energy

-Attack Speed

-Attack Speed

How to play:

Unleash a barrage of blindingly fast attacks on your enemies with the triple attack speed Spectral Blade and cut through groups using the heavy attack and your Kunai Storm. Melt through mist monsters, smashers, and bosses with the basic attack. Since your melee damage is heavily dependent upon your health, it’s important to keep it topped off! Collecting 20-30 coconuts by searching containers should be plenty enough to get you through missions. You can also be a big team player by dropping coconuts to your teammates as they provide them with the same benefits. This build is capable of killing even power level 174 smashers in just a few seconds, making it extremely valuable especially with missions or minibosses that have the smoke screen modifier. Highly regarded amongst the Save the World community for its mix of high damage and fun playstyle!

· Way of the Bleeding Edge

Commander: Deadly Blade Crash (Melee critical hits apply 30% Snare and Affliction which deals 87% of Damage dealt each second for 3 seconds)

Team Perk: Totally Rockin’ Out (Rockin’ Riff also increases Crit Rating by 160, decaying over 8 seconds, and Heals 73.75 base health)

Support Team:

-Breakbeat Wildcat (Eliminating 10 enemies in 9 seconds grants Rockin’ Riff which increases damage by 50% and Melee Attack Speed by 32%, decaying over 8 seconds)

-Main Stage Quinn (Harvesting Metal objects has a 32% chance to give Sub Wafers. Consuming Sub Wafers grants Rockin’ Riff which increases damage by 50% and Melee Attack Speed by 32%, decaying over 8 seconds)

-Assassin Sarah (Dealing Melee Weapon Damage grants 1 stack of Assassination (up to 5 stacks). Assassination lasts 5 seconds and increases Melee Weapon Damage by 4.5%)

-Rapid Charge (Melee weapon eliminations grant 7.5 Energy)

-Hybrid (Increases Affliction Duration by 34%)

Weapons:

Surround Pound Tree of Light

-Crit Damage -Crit Damage

-Damage -Crit Damage

-Element: Energy -Element: Energy

-Attack Speed -Crit Damage

-Crit Damage -Damage to snared targets

How to play:

Become a living nightmare to every smasher on the battlefield with incredibly high affliction damage that chunks away health. This build has a lot going on and requires some extra time to explain, so buckle in! Since the weapons, especially the Tree of Light, rely on the critical rating boost provided by Totally Rockin’ Out, you want to activate it as much as possible. The best way to achieve this is by gathering wafers for instant Rockin’ Riff when you need it, as well as placing a small trap tunnel covering a portion of the spawns that you won’t be actively defending, as trap eliminations count towards the eliminations required for Breakbeat Wildcat’s perk. 25-45 sub wafers should be enough to get you through most missions with an excess to use specifically for healing yourself. Get amazing group clear and crowd control from the Surround Pound heavy attack, as it goes through shield bubbles, walls, and up cliffs and does enough damage to kill everything aside from mist monsters (depending on your power level in relation to the husks). Any blaster or taker that doesn’t die from the initial heavy attack will almost certainly die from the affliction damage from Deadly Blade Crash’s commander perk, assuming you get a critical hit. The high base critical rating of the Surround Pound along with the crit rating increase perk on the weapon itself makes it quite reliable even without Totally Rockin’ Out. Now, onto handling smashers and minibosses. This is where the Tree of Light really shines. With the fix to heavy attack damage released in v10.40, some heavy attacks received a significantly larger increase. Since Corrosive Strikes works off of a single hit, and not a grouped number from all attacks in a heavy attack chain, you want to find the highest single hit damage weapon and the Tree of Light is that weapon, but a close second would go to the Reaper Scythe with double crit damage. With the heavy attack of the Tree of Light (energy against physical husks) doing 500k+ damage on the first hit and 900k+ on the second hit (assuming you crit), the affliction adds an incredible amount of damage. Since using Hybrid in the support team gives an additional tick of affliction, the total damage from a single attack chain of Tree of Light, plus the 4 ticks of affliction is 5 million+ damage. This allows you to single heavy attack chain power level 174 physical smashers (149 elemental smashers) and walk away while they bleed to death from the giant affliction chunks. The utility here cannot be underestimated as this allows you to quickly move from smasher to smasher and not need to stay on the target until it dies. Smasher waves during a defense become an absolute breeze and a miniboss that isn’t trap vulnerable or a tank will be destroyed by this build!
