TLDR; Mobile players are being placed into lobbies with console and PC players, despite the fact that Epic has previously stated that PC has a great advantage over mobile players. There is no accurate way to compare the stats (or skill level) of a mobile player compared to a PC or console player, therefore mobile players should not be placed in lobbies with other platforms.
I want to start this off by saying that no, I am not mad about SBMM. I actually love it. I love the competition and its a great way for new players to improve. But, I do not like the fact that I am being forced to play against other people that are on a superior platform. In
this blog post Epic Games states that all platforms are pooled together into similar skill-based lobbies. But, as you can see in this post here Epic Games states in an email that "there would be a great disadvantage between a PC player and a Mobile player." So as of right now, mobile players are forced into lobbies with PC players despite the fact that Epic has previously stated that PC has an unfair advantage over mobile.
The main counter-argument to this is that you are placed in matches with players of "equal skill." But, how do you measure skill when the lobbies are cross-platform? If a mobile player has a K/D of 5.00, do you place them in lobbies with PC players that have a K/D of 5.00? 2.50? Where is the line drawn? Mobile is inherently a more casual platform meaning it is much easier to have higher stats. A mobile player with a K/D of 5.00 is not equal in skill to a PC player with a K/D of 5.00. So how do you know what kind of lobbies to put the mobile player in?
As I previously stated, I died in a solo match with zero other mobile players. After I was eliminated, I saved every username in the lobby using the report button and researched every player's stats. This was the first time I did this, and I found zero mobile players. I'm sure if I did this ten other times the results would all be the same. Here is a rough excel worksheet comparing the stats of every player in the lobby against my stats. 23 players were on PC, 54 were on console, and 17 were anonymous or unavailable. Regardless of stats, it is unfair for a mobile player to be matched up against console and PC, given the many advantages that the two platforms have over mobile. This is extremely unfair to mobile players regardless of skill. I love the idea of a balanced SBMM system. But this is not right and mobile should be separate from other platforms.
I really love SBMM and can handle having my butt kicked by another player. But, it is upsetting when I get my butt kicked due to the fact that I am matched up against players on a far superior platform.
