I see a lot of jokes around here, and some complaints, that STW is basically being "abandoned" because of the success of BR and that STW will probably end up with the same fate of EPIC's game Paragon (which was shut down) but I think these people are waaay off the mark with this and I think EPIC themselves have actually said so too.
So firstly I want to give some anecdotal evidence. I hadn't heard of Fortnite or STW until BR started getting popular around October 2017 which is when I first started playing BR. It wasn't until around April 2018 that I decided I want to try out this other elusive mode "Save The World" and when I did… I LOVED IT. Seriously guys, despite the many flaws of the game, it's super fun. I'm currently like ~25 days shy of 1 year of daily logins.
Now let's look at (I'll admit) slightly more "technical" proof that Save The World isn't "dying" but it's actually doing pretty well for what it is and it might actually be doing better than EPIC expected it to do, part at least I'm sure thanks to BR's popularity:
In the June 2018 State of Development Blog you can find the following text: "The game and player base continues to grow, far exceeding our initial expectations back when we started this crazy journey, and we can’t wait for the adventure ahead!" – this to me doesn't just seem like PR fluff, I think this is a genuine statement that the game was booming at that time, and I suspect is maintaining those rates even to today.
In the October 2018 State of Development Blog you can find the following text: "Save the World has grown consistently since our launch in July 2017 and Fortnite overall has experienced unprecedented growth. Scaling up for the legions of player heroes who will be joining the fight is key to providing an excellent experience." – again, this implies to me that the popularity of BR has sent many players into trying out and then loving STW just like I did. They also make not of wanting to prepare for an even larger influx of players likely hinting at the F2P release.Загрузка...
Another point I want to make is that Save The World doesn't need to be as successful as Battle Royale for it to still be successful. Yes, STW obviously isn't making as much money as BR, it's just not even up for debate but as long as STW is a profitable mode EPIC don't really have much incentive to close it down and the chances are, considering most of us paid at least 20 bucks to get into the game, it likely is very profitable.
This point is a bit nitpicky but I think it holds true. IF STW was a dying mode then EPIC would have pulled the plug long ago. My point is there is NO way EPIC would have spent all that time creating the Canny Valley biome + story, hero loadout, frontend UI overhaul, Plankerton biome, Wargames, etc if they had statistics saying STW was dying or it wasn't successful or it wasn't profitable.
Another slightly nitpicky point I want to touch on is to all the people who say that STW doesn't get as good of updates as BR or as many updates or whatever. Okay first of all 90% of BR updates are micro-transactions and new weapons that upset people. Every week in BR it's just these basic ass challenges that are even more mundane than our fetch and grab quests. Sure BR does get occasional things like Horde Rush or Endgame which are awesome but it's not like we don't get any major updates or cool stuff either. All I'm saying is that i don't think it's as black and white as people say it is, it's more
50 shades of grey.
My final point is on the topic of lobbies being "dead", perhaps I'm just really lucky but I rarely have issues finding players. I would say the only times that I really struggle to find players are in PL100+ missions and let's be honest, can you really blame people for avoiding those? The risk/reward ratio is horribly skewed.
In conclusion, I just want to say to tell all the haters out there to get out of my
swamp storm shield. And that while STW definietly isn't as big or bold as BR, It's an incredibly good game, I'm very positive it's profitable and successful and I don't think we're getting "Paragon'd" anytime soon or ever. And hey, if the game does get shut down as long as get a refund I'd say it's been a good run.
