Storm Shield One is an excellent resource, but it's possible that it might explain some of the lag we've seen lately.

There are several possibilities, first I'll cover the best case scenario: When Fortnite updates player information, it dumps the data into a separate server to hold users, lootbox RNG, mission Data, ect… And this separate system is queried only when requested by a client or by Storm Shield One. This means that your ability to play in a mission has nothing to do with your ability to access personal player data, the in-game store, and mission select. Based on the way the game is coded, there's some evidence that this is the case, and Storm Shield One isn't really going to interfere.

Worst case, we have to take a look at what happened to Pokemon Go in the early weeks of release. They had way too many users, lag made it impossible to login and stay in. They increased servers, and the problem disappeared, the popularity swelled, and some fanatic fans found a way to access the API, and created a site to show pokemon locations in real time. Then the server crashed in less than 48 hours, and Niantic had to issue a cease and desist to restore function to the game, because the API was treating EVERY request from the site as a player going to all the locations a particular pokemon was displayed on the site.

If Storm Shield One gathers information from Epic servers every time someone loads a page, that creates a request that it has to respond to. If that request is treated the same as player access, this is bound to add up in a similar way. I'm not going to claim to know how Storm Shield One compiles its data, or how Epic stores the data, but I do know that I've seen this before. ESPECIALLY with individual player reports, this seems like it could be what's happening. Especially since the lag, and the desynced FORT stats all began to occur again (previously it was because they added parties to BR. It was a lot worse then, so I have to give Epic some credit for handling things pretty well so far) around the time Storm Shield One added the ability to pin a player report to their mission alert page.

Read:  Was 30% build cost reduction from stacking Pre-planning along with creating engineering REALLY an issue?

I'm aware of how great Storm Shield One is, and how it would be devastating if it stopped working altogether. I don't want that to happen, but maybe take the pinned player reports and see what happens before brandishing the pitchforks and torches.

  • Posted here because I don't know who to contact directly, and I want open discussion to look at possible solutions besides "hang them all".
