2014-2015

Sunshine Hunter (combo decks are bad for the game. One second you're winning, the next you're dead. There is no counterplay)

Freeze mage (Burn decks are bad for the game. Freeze effects allow no counterplay.)

Miracle Rogue (Combo decks are bad for the game. Powerful card draw engines are bad for the game. One second you're winning, the next you're dead.)

Zoo warlock (good minions on curve are bad for the game. Doomguard is an unfair finisher. )

Midrange Druid. (force of nature+savage roar burst is bad for the game. There is no counterplay. Innervate + Wild Growth are also bad for the game, sometimes druid can make plays you are not prepared to answer.)

Mech Mage. (good minions on curve are bad for the game. Mechwarper is an unfair tempo engine.)

Undertaker hunter (good minions on curve are bad for the game.)

Face Hunter (Burn decks are bad for the game. Charge minions allow no counterplay.)

Grim Patron Warrior (Warsong commander is bad for the game. Charge minions allow no counterplay)

Control Warrior (Control decks are bad for the game. Removing all your minions allows for no counterplay. You can't kill them through their armor. The deck is too expensive as well, free to play players dont stand a chance.)

Anyfin Can Happen Paladin (combo decks are bad for the game. One second you're winning, the next you're dead.)

Secret Paladin (good minions on curve are bad for the game. Shielded Minibot, Muster for Battle, Loatheb, Mysterious Challenger, Dr. Boom, and Tirion are all bad for the game.)

2016-2017

I've been playing this game since closed beta. This subreddit has *always* been on a witch hunt targeting the most powerful decks in the meta. Every archetype is a "problem" archetype. Control decks are bad. Combo Decks are bad. Agressive decks are bad. There has always been a circle-jerk of Blizzard being bad at balance, neglecting the community, not paying attention to what the fans want. Then they nerf and people take objections to the nerfs. This games online communtiy has always been full of complaints.

This of course, is the nature of perspective. Of course we, as a community, dislike the most represented decks. Playing against the same strategies for weeks on end is not a very enjoyable thing. This is also the nature of card games. Every card game is going to have a tier list. People who want to win are going to play the most powerful strategies, and they will be most represented.

What I find abrhorrent is the way that collective negativity has perverted this games wonderful community. Almost every day there are top posts complaining about the new deck to beat. This has been since the games inception. People build off of eachothers disillusionment with hearthstone, until your subreddit is met with comments like these…heres just a few i've seen as of late

" I mean many people enjoy raping other people in real life but that doesnt mean we should legalize rape. The "I counter everything you play from hand" is a degenerate playstyle people do not enjoy playing against."

" the mental retardation of the hearthstone balance team is limitless. "

" Fuck you go hang yourself. "

Just a few particularily awful comments that stood out to me recently. I understand that will happen with 995k subscribers to a reddit page, but, what incites this culture of negativity? Why is this a problem i've always been aware of, since this subreddits inception?

I'm not trying to defend blizzard, I think hearthstone has some intrinsic flaws in it that people are discontent with. Some issues are a part of the nature of the game though, such as the absence of counter play. Hearthstone isn't really a game where counterplay is a part of it, in the same way Magic the Gathering has it, hearthstone is more about trying to set up the best proactive plays possible. I think in many cases it is a mute point.

Hearthstone has certainly had its issues, Odd/Even decks did warp the game. Elysiana warps the game. Those things aren't fun to play against. These things don't need to breed a toxic community though. One where every competitive list becomes the target of a witch hunt. It makes the entire subreddit uninviting.
