Hi, I've had this issue since forever that I can remember. It only happens to Heroes of the Storm and never for any other game I have, like LoL, Apex Legends, Diablo 3, etc. It's honestly baffling and I can't for the life of me figure out what it is and any other simliar situation I've found while searching for a fix has changed nothing, so I decided it's time to find out once and for all (hopefully).
- MB: Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3
- GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 1080 Ti 11GB Gaming X.
- CPU: AMD FX-8320 8C 3.5 GHz Black Edition 8MB
- RAM: Not sure of specifics, but it's 2x4GB HyperX sticks.
Whenever I play HoTS, my frames are fine and I can play the game on Extreme settings with no frame drops (I've tried completely stripping down the settings to see if it would help my problem, it didn't so I'm certain it's not the settings). However, on occasion with differing intervals, my game stutters for like 1-2s, then freezes for 10s up to 1 minute. I usually play with friends and talk using Discord and once the game freezes the call gets cut off until I get reconnected again to the game. I've managed to tab out once during one of the freezes and I see that my internet is disconnected, which is very odd since I'm on a 100Mb/s fiber connection which never fails me any other time. Once I get reconnected I can play like normal until it happens again, and again, and again. I've also found that it occurs more often when I use and ability or near an enemy player to engage, but also mostly at random (it made me think it was maybe the effects of abilities that made the game stutter, but it happens at random as well so, and it seems crazy to me that simple particle effects and such could make my whole network crash for a moment).
What I've tried to fix it:
So, from my searches I've found basically nothing that has helped. I've tried all manners of changes no matter how ridiculous they seemed to me, because I honestly just wanted to fix the damn game so I can continue to have fun playing with my friends.
I've tried, with no beneficial effect (battlenet related):
- Closing Battlenet App when starting the game.
- Disabling Battlenet streaming
- Adding "additional comand line agruments: -Displaymode 0" (if I recall correctly it forces the game to start in windowed mode)
- Deleting "%userprofile%/Documents/HeroesOfTheStorm" file
- Lowering all settings to lowest possible.
- Disabling ingame display
- Disabling "Hardware acceleration"
- Playing with Discord completely shut off
- Enabling "Prevent the usage Onedrive for file storage"
I've also tried playing without any other programme active. On a more recent note, two friends of mine recently installed Diablo 3 again, and when they tried to play HoTS afterwards they also started experiencing a similar issue. It even persisted after uninstalling, I was told. They haven't tried rebooting the computer after uninstalling, so I'll have to report back once I hear what happens after that is done. My other friend said he got the issue as well, but it didn't affect him as severly. My suspicion was CPU power cause I've heard it's an issue with HoTS, but since they only started having the same issue after installing Diablo 3 I'm completely stumped.
Any help would be most appreciated, sorry for the long post.
TL;DR: HoTS causes my internet to disconnect randomly throughout a match, tried several suggested solutions I've found, installing Diablo 3 caused the same issue for a couple of friends, no idea wtf is wrong.
