By support I mean: tell WoW loving friends to come try him, make videos and content based on him, play him in game… and yes, sadly, in this somewhat depressing era of Blizzard, I'm also thinking about whether or not to spend money. Speaking only for myself, Anduin is the first hero in awhile that I'm choosing to purchase with real money. I don't want to tell anyone else how to spend their money, and you can certainly disagree with my reasoning, but I'll explain my personal thinking below.
I think the most asked question on this sub since December's 'news' is "how do we support HotS"? It's been difficult to figure out, people have had reasonable debates about it. Is money I put in the game be used to develop the game? Or is the larger entity of Activision-Blizzard just milking HotS for one more year before ending support entirely?
I still don't know the answer to that, but my feeling is that new hero releases seem like the most important type of content to support right now.
Worst case scenario: Acti-Blizz is totally run by accountants and bean counters, they are making game dev decisions purely based on what brings in money/interest and what doesn't. If they see a huge spike in revenue and player count (which they coldly see as more potential buyers for skins, mounts, etc) from HotS at the time of Anduin's release, then maybe, just maybe they see the business value in developing and releasing more heroes (maybe even with slightly increased frequency) in the longer term. If they still don't see that value, I used 10 bucks on a hero I'll play and enjoy anyways.
Best case scenario: The HotS dev team is still somewhat in control of their own content decisions (we know this isn't fully true, funding does dictate some decisions, see the hero release schedule) and their work on Andiun is rewarded. Maybe they get a pat on the back from some higher up at Blizz. Maybe they get a shred more leeway and breathing room. Maybe its just a psychological win to see so many people enjoying the first hero released in this "new era" of HotS. Either way, it cant hurt.
I hate to think about a new hero in such cold business-like terms, but I feel like Blizz showed us just how cold and businesslike they're going to be about HotS and it's senseless not to try and view things through that new reality. Maybe my logic is flawed in some way, but to me this is the most obvious content to get behind in a major way if we want to support HotS into the future.
TLDR: I'm buying Anduin with $ on day one. If you're planning to get him, perhaps consider getting him earlier rather than later. HOWEVER – please DO NOT take this post to support the idea of spending money you don't really have on a video game. If that's the case, use other methods mentioned to support new hero releases. Spread the word about him to friends, play him, create content around him, or your own more creative ideas than I can think of : )
