– Short introduction:

For this rework concept I set eyes on turning Tass into a full assassin, but I ended up with a full healer concept instead and I couldn't be more pleased with it. You'll see nothing in here is insane, it's all more or less been done before, it's just the way it's approached that does the trick. You'll also see lots of it were inspired by other heroes in the game, most noticeably, parts of Alexstrasza's, Whitemane's and Morales' kits inspired me in different parts of this rework concept. I hope you enjoy as I have enjoyed doing this. I really think this is the best Tass rework EVER!

– Primary design goals:

  • Make him fit into an actual role (either full healer or full assassin)
  • "Normalize" the hero across the different levels of play (The issue of lowest winrate on HotsLogs while also permaban in pro play)
  • Do away with problematic niche ("Tass + <AA carry>" comps) that have lead him to feel as one dimensional as a character can be
  • Make abilities feel impactful (specially in teamfights) so he feels rewarding and fun (tackling the "shieldbot" issue)

– Approach:

  • Completely rearranging his power-pie. Much of Tassadar's current power is allocated on not-very-interesting abilities, like Dimensional Shift. One of the approaches taken was turning some basic abilities into Heroics and vice-versa in order to have his overall kit feel more impactful without being oppresive or too safe.

If you have the ability to shield yourself and increase vision range revealing enemies over terrain baseline, you probably shouldn't also have a self invulnerability on 30 second cooldown from level 1. This makes you so extremely safe on the solo lane that your kit is gonna have to take huge hits on other parts to compensate. Dimensional Shift is actually an immensily overpowered ability (in a vacuum) to be a basic ability.

  • Rethinking the existing abilities. "How could they feel more impactful while not being oppressive?" This was one of the issues with Oracle which is a sort of hit or miss skill. The vision it grants can be rather oppresive if on a too-short cooldown, but, at the same time, as the Tass player, it can feel basically useless sometimes, depending on the matchup or battleground.
  • Borrowing ideas from other heroes to make a kit that isn't far fetched nor insanely convoluted.

Tassadar Rework Concept:


Miscellaneous

• Energy

  • Tassadar now uses Energy to fuel his Plasma Shield ability. All other abilities are free to cast.

    • Tassadar can hold up to 100 Energy.

Abilities

• Plasma Shield (Q)

  • Removed functionality:
    • No longer grants targets actual shields
  • New funcionality:
    • Engulf an ally with a Plasma "Shield" for 8 seconds. Allies with a Plasma Shield are healed for 100% of the damage Tassadar deals to Heroes (20% to non-Heroes).
  • Cooldown drastically reduced from 8 to .5 seconds
  • Each active Plasma Shield costs 4 Energy per second
  • Tassadar generates 6 Energy per second when no Plasma Shields are active.
  • Trying to cast Plasma Shield on a target already with Plasma Shield will deactivate it from them. Deactivate all Plasma Shields in order to regenerate Energy.

• Archon (D)

  • Moved to D (Trait)
  • Cooldown increased from 100 to 150.
  • Duration increased from 10 to 15 seconds.
  • Attack Damage reduced by 10%
  • Splash damage now matches primary target damage
  • Attacks no longer slow
  • New functionality:
    • While Archon is active, Plasma Shield doesn't drain Energy, but basic attacks only heal for 40% of damage dealt. Additionally, the duration of incoming Stuns and Blinds is reduced by 50%.
  • Removed functionality:
    • No longer refreshes the cooldown of Dimensional Shift
  • Readjusted functionality:
    • Archon refreshes the cooldown of Basic Abilities (Psionic Storm and Oracle).

• Oracle (E)

  • Moved to E
  • Cooldown reduced from 30 to 16 seconds
  • Radius reduced by 2 units
  • Duration reduced from 5 to 1 second
  • Added functionality:
    • Enemies revealed by Oracle stay revealed for 4 seconds.
  • Added passive:
    • Enemies that are being revealed by Tassadar's Oracle are rooted for 1.5 seconds the first time they are damaged by Psionic Storm or Tassadar's basic attacks.

• Dimensional Shift (R)

  • Moved to R
  • Cooldown increased from 30 to 60 seconds
  • Duration increased from 2 to 3 seconds
  • While shifting, Tassadar heals for 7% of his maximum health per second

Stats

  • Increase health by ~200 (with this new kit, I think his health pool should be somewhere between Whitemane and Tyrande) edit: maybe lower actually

• Basic Attack

  • Removed functionality:
    • No longer slows
  • Added functionality:
    • Continuously attacking the same target increases Distortion Beam's damage by 20% every second. Stacks up to 60% increased damage. This bonus is lost when Distortion Beam fails to do uninterrupted damage.

Note: Like Lunara's poison or Valla's Manticore, this new functionality will display an icon below the character's health bar, showing how many stacks of increased damage Tassadar is currently dealing: no icon for no increased damage (before the first second is complete), 1 icon for 20% increased damage (once the first second is complete), 2 icons for 40% increased damage (after two complete seconds) and 3 icons for 60% increased damage (after 3 successful, uninterrupted seconds of channeling Distortion Beam on the same target). This is just because I found it awesome to have his attacks reminiscent of Void Rays, but it's not necessary. I would probably buff his AAs in some way tho, as I think he'd need more damage with a kit like the proposed one.
