4/5 of the players are healers. We are all just here to try to get our quest done – because it's number based, it means that we're all hurting each other by being here together. This seems really nasty and harmful to community collaboration – we're in freaking AI mode and we are angry at each other and people are being mean because we're so grumpy about this silly questline. This was not how AI mode felt just a few weeks ago.
Making the quests reliant on a win condition just forces players into AI and it's really obvious that's the case. The SG AI mode actually has players queueing often whereas this was a rare occurance before the new quests – queue times has gone from several minutes (with AI teammates) to mere seconds. Most of the player base is playing AI now, because the win condition is guaranteed, so they can complete the quest – why play any other mode, when losing can make you waste your quest objective?
The quests are forcing players into different game modes and it's dramatically affecting player play, and not for the better.
I'm frustrated by the argument that "derpy players will be derps without the win condition" -these types of players will be idiots no matter what and they aren't going to care at all about a win condition being appended to the quest. All this is doing is pushing people away from ranked and discouraging them from playing challenging games. The bad players will be bad players regardless of conditions put in to contain them, and I think we all know this.
People who actually min/max feel forced into playing AI or QM games and actively avoid playing ranked – I know I do. I want to churn through my quests, so why would I waste over an hour on a gamble? It's a toss-up if I'll win my game, and my queue is already 30 minutes. Why risk this, when I can churn out a loot box in AI? It's boring as fuck and it makes me dislike playing the game, but at least I get the loot boxes. I feel like smart folks will see the game design issue here.
I frankly have reached the point where I just don't play much of HOTS at all. I don't like feeling punished for playing ranked (which the current quest does) and I don't like feeling like I have to constantly churn and grind (which the current quest also does). I'm sure it appeals to some, but the design actually actively makes me not want to play and I've been avoiding playing ever since launch.
AI games are not enjoyable, but anything less feels like a waste of my gametime given the rewards. Being placed with 3 other healers is just a horrible cruel icing to this shit cake.
