It's just a passing thought, but hear me out:

This game from day 1 has been brandished with the unfortunate markings of a "casual" moba. What was originally poor marketing in this game's infancy and misconceptions based on surface-level research, the game always seemed stunted by that branding.

In fact, HGC often caused many to raise their eyebrows, and others to point and laugh. "A casual moba can't have a competitive scene", is probably the most common remark I say about it all. A damn pity for certain, but maybe, just maybe, something good can come from what is undoubtedly a disaster for this game.

If the new/remaining HotS team decide to embrace this game as a truly casual moba, that may work in their favour. Instead of seeing it as an insult to this game's complexion, it can act as a vessel for those who are intimidated by the face-value complexity of games like Dota 2 and League.

What better way to get people to try out a product then to welcome them in and make them feel no pressure to learn thousands of micro-mechanics? I think balancing won't change much, but I do think things like the newer Heroes and reworks will aim for more of a fun factor than skill potential. I think if the new HotS team truly embrace this game henceforth as "A casual moba" that may very well be the key to get people talking about it again. Talking about how fun it is and how more open to newcomers it is now than ever before.

TL;DR/In conclusion: Like Super Smash Bros, the game was originally designed and branded as a "party fighting game". Now, years later, the game has a thriving competitive scene, and once you dive deep into it, the game has deep mechanics and new tech being discovered daily. And even to this day, the game presents itself (and embraces itself) as both a game for hardcore fighting game players, and casual players alike.

HotS is a competitive MOBA with fun and creative mechanics, as well as deep design and gameplay.

HotS is also a casual MOBA that is easy to learn and pick up and enjoy.

By embracing both sides the game and community can only grow and expand from there.
