Hey all! Welcome back to The Review, where I use a bunch of charts and numbers to talk about what Riot's most recent balance patch actually affected, and by how much.

The first set of changes after the preseason patch have arrived, and they're surprisingly tame, at least on the champion/item/rune balance side of things. Sign of a job well done I suppose. Anyway, since this post is shorter than usual, I decided to try out a new formatting style, in hopes of fitting in more data without having 6+ columns per chart. Let me know what you think!

Notes:

  • Akali: The shroud nerfs seem to have hit her much harder mid than top, knocking her down to Ryze caliber win rates. Hopefully she won't need as many reworks.

  • Camille: As expected, the AS nerf really only affected her jungle WR, knocking her down ~1%

  • Galio: Oh hello there. ~4.5% WR increase with a significant playrate spike. Those changes certainly made him more solo-queue friendly, looking at the numbers.

  • Irelia: Better nerf Irelia is back, just like the good old days. W nerfs appear to have hit top and mid roughly evenly, falling by ~2.2% and ~2.5% respectively.

  • Jax: Nerfs appear to have been ineffective, especially in the jungle, as his WR actually rose (likely due to Dark Harvest nerfs negatively affecting most other meta junglers).

  • Viktor: These nerfs appear to have finally done him in. While Top Viktor is all but gone, it appears that middle was caught in the crossfire, albeit the WR dip is slightly less substantial.

TL;DR: Standard AP Builds seem to work just fine. Luden's is the most common first item by far (~86%). Strong snowball build is Luden's ⇒ Deathcap ⇒ Lich Bane.

BASE DAMAGE: 40-80 (lv 1-18) ⇒ 20-60 (lv 1-18)

PROC MODEL: Can no longer proc off other procs (ex. Scorch, Liandry's Torment) aside from Luden's Echo, whose effect is built to behave like a separate ability

TL;DR: Solid nerf across the board, both WR and PR down on 15/15 champions. Still solid, but other options are similarly strong. Worth continuing to track to see if play rate continues to fall.  


Death's Dance:

The Buff:

HEALING: 15% of physical damage dealt (5% per target for area-effect abilities) ⇒ 15% of all damage dealt (5% per target for area-effect abilities)

The Numbers:

There…. aren't any? This buff appears to have been completely ignored by the champions it affects. I dug through Akali, Corki, Jax, Katarina; they simply never run it, and the champions that do have so little magic damage the buff is negligible. I'd assume this item hasn't separated itself enough from Gunblade for hybrid damage champions yet.

TL;DR: Try this please so I can make a chart?
