TL:DR, Basically a chest that moves on it's own from time to time.
Design A: Have the chest look a like a regular chest on one side and and a sea shell on the other, with an opening from which a hermit crab would crawl out of to get the chest moving.
Design B: Have it look like just any other chest when it's immobile. When it tries to move have the hermit crab's legs pop out of the bottom and the lid ever so slightly open with eyes, antennae and claw barely sticking out.
Gameplay: The chest doesn't like to sit still for too long. If it doesn't get interacted with for a certain amount of time it will start moving and hide in a random spot on the ship, maybe even climb to the crows nest or try to reach the plank to jump off the ship! You can stop the hermit crab for a brief period just by picking him up, scaring him and forcing him to retract into his shell. You can also keep him in his shell even longer by splashing water on him.
Optional gameplay: The crab could maybe pinch you for a small amount of damage if you try to block his way while it's moving. If it's a Design B crab maybe it could try to migrate to a better chest (castaway>seafarer>marauder>captain) but would be vulnerable to attacks in the transition process. If it migrates to a chest of thousand grog it always keeps on the move but in a slow, random, drunken manner.
What do you guys think?
Shout out to u/zombieauthor for his Wilson ball post which inspired the idea of a moving chest since Wilson falls off the ship seemingly on it's(his?) own
