Rare have multiple functions for tools within SoT e.g. instruments calm snakes, lanterns solve riddles and buckets collect both water and barf.
Come Halloween, the ‘Well of Spirits’ will haunt the Ferryman’s ship. The Well’s flame changes colour depending on how players have recently died. Using the lantern players can catch the flame and customise their ship, as well as other (speculated) areas across the sea for commendations.
Now, to my idea! Death, sacrifice and the ‘Well of Spirits’ thematically fit with black magic, potions and abilities/curses. Could Rare implement these functions into SoT with tools already available? Well, I think so!
Killed by sharks? (We’ve all been there!) Take the Ferryman’s ‘Well of Spirits’ flame back to the SoT and light a cauldron that grants a ‘swim faster’ potion.
Killed by a fall? (Don’t let gravity get you down!) Take the Ferryman’s ‘Well of Spirits’ flame back to the SoT and light a cauldron for a ‘less fall damage’ potion.
Killed by gunshots? (Try jumping! Or…) Take the Ferryman’s ‘Well of Spirits’ flame back to the SoT and light a cauldron for a ‘less bullet damage’ potion.
‘Unbalanced and easily abused!’ I hear you cry.
Well, Black Magic comes at a cost…
Swim faster but walk slower. Fall damage reduced but ladders/stairs take longer to climb. Shot damage reduced but guns load fewer bullets.
Collect a variety of ‘Well of Springs’ Flames on your ship’s lanterns as storage (no interface needed).
Should I exchange visibility for a speedy selection of potions?
Do gained abilities outweigh the attached curse?
Competitive PvP’s could adorn their ship in tandem with the Reapers Mark to communicate power. How about misdirection?
SoT is missing cauldrons, true… hopefully they’ll be implemented in a future update, with, oh I dunno, maaaybe a new Swamp Biome? Rare? 😛
I heard potions are something Rare have considered adding to SoT.
What does everyone think of this implementation? Should they be included, if at all?
