I'm not sure if these types of posts are allowed or encouraged; my apologies if this is annoying. I know that maphacking is more of a concern at the higher GM or masters levels. Yes, I know, at diamond and below, we're so bad that we could overcome this just by better mechanics alone. For what it's worth, I did win it in the end, but that was only because my opponent seems to be really bad at controlling his army. His ability to be in the right place at the right time, however, was amazingly impressive.
Anyway; I know maphacking is more of a big deal at the upper echelons of the game but I think it ought to be condemned at all levels because it really does take fun away from the game. Also, maphacking is just a scum baggy thing in general. I would never encourage baseless witch hunts and so I do not do this lightly. Anyway:
I've come back to SC2 after over a year of a break and have been having a bit of fun, making it back to diamond pretty fast. Tonight, though, I played someone who I felt was suspiciously good with blocking all my harass and constantly denying my expansions at some of the best possible times. I decided to check the replay and I'm fairly certain (after numerous suspicious-but-not-definitive moments) this user is a maphacker:
I won't waste your time with the various "suspicious, but plausible that he might just have good map awareness" situations. For tl;dr, purposes I'll just indicate what I believe to be the most blatant/obvious case of maphacking here.
17:57. All of a sudden, he tells a group of corruptors to move INTO the fog of war and then RALLIES to my warp prism which is about an inch away (also in fog of war).
Feel free to rewind back a minute and watch from his POV; there is nothing indicating its presence; the prism does not fly over creep tumours or overlords. I've watched the replay from his perspective; there is NOTHING that tells him he should be coming here. No blips on the minimap; he simply rallies his corruptors into fog of war and then precisely into where my warp prism is. All this during a very attention-draining moment, too.
Screenshots from his perspective vs. all perspective; exact same timestamp.
