- Press down on the D-pad, highlight the first magnifying glass, press A, select any technology from the list. Repeat until all three magnifying glasses are void. Press B until you return to the neutral screen.
- Press right on the D-pad, select your science ship, press A, and then target any planet or star in your home system, press A, and select survey system.
- Press right on the D-pad, highlight your planet, at the top of the list, press A, and on the next screen press RB twice, select Science Ship, press A to start construction. Press B until you return to the neutral screen.
- Press right on the D-pad, highlight your fleet, press A, press RB, and select split fleet, press A twice. You now have 3 small fleets; select each one and plot a route for each, by pressing X on a group of star systems, to explore the map locally.
Habitable Planets are a lottery that yeild more resources than Planets, Stars and Black Holes, where tile amount is not the most important aspect, but instead, what resources or modifiers are on those planets. Habitable Planets also increase your empires border range. You colonize Habitable Planets by sending a Colony Ship to a Habitable Planet you've surveyed with a Science Ship; green planets grow quicker than yellow planets which grow quicker than red planets; code green, yellow and red represents habitablity.
Construction Ships can build Frontier Outposts, which increase your border range in a small circle around where they are built but costs 200 Minerals; you must also pay Energy Credits and Influence monthly for upkeep. You want to build these around clusters of stars or in strategic positions.
Collect Resources by building stations on surveyed Planets, Stars and Black Holes using a Construction Ship. Minerals are used to build, energy credits are used for rent, and physics, society and engineering are used to hasten science.
Types of technology vary, but to name a some categories; weaponry, armor, naval capacity, power plants, mining networks, etc. Choose wisely depending on your Government and starting luck.
There are four ship types (you have to research three), and before you start using a ship for battle, you want to research applicable offensive or defensive technology, or have your ships rendered useless. You don't always need many fleets, one or two reasonably sized fleets is fine for most wars. Combat is as simple as point and click on an enemy fleet, station or Habitable Planet. When you attack a planet, you begin to bombard it, reducing it's fortifications; when fortifications are low, you need to send armies, which you build on home planets under the Armies tab; you'll need seven or more armies. Embark them from your planet and send them to the enemy planet; they might take it over.
Beware, the planet doesn't become yours, it becomes 'controlled', but to truly own it, you must make your enemy submit to specific war demands chosen at the beginning of a warring ('Cede Planet' war demand takes planets if you make your enemy submit).
Unity is gained by either building monuments, heritage sites, other buildings, or by buying art pieces from the Artisan contact. When you have enough unity, you can unlock a society perk.
Usually, it's best to start with the Discovery Tree, and use two to three science ships to survey star systems. until they discover anomalies (the Discovery Tree benefits this process). However, depending on your luck, you may want to try other trees.
You can talk to other players or computer governments; you want to do this to declare one or more governments a rival to earn monthly influence. Otherwise, pick any option and read the description. You can also contact guilds who provide services.
