Some of the species portraits have some odd details to them that you can miss if you don't look closely.
Humanoid HP #7 has no eyes.
Mammal Normal #7 looks remarkably similar to
Necroid Palien #12/Jeff
- The mammals all wear clothes.
Reptile Massive #14 looks like it's wearing clothes but it's really a shell.
Reptile Slender #3 has a hole on the side of its mouth.
Reptile Slender #1 has translucent skin. You can see its spine in its neck.
Reptile #17 also has no eyes.
Avian Slender #4 has a hole in the middle of its beak.
Avian Slender #2 physically can't close its mouth all the way.
Arthropod Massive #14 bears a heavy resemblance to
Abathur from the Starcraft series.
Arthropod Massive #13 only has two legs and a tail, which is unusual for an arthropod.
Arthropod Slender #3 appears to be in a sitting position.
Arthropod Slender #9 has no eyes. (why so many blind aliens?)
Arthropod Massive #11's tail goes down below the screen but its legs don't appear to go much farther. This means that this arthropod is likely sitting at the edge of a table and is very short.
Arthropod Massive #16 has eight eyes and eight legs, accurate to real spiders.
Arthropod #18 takes aspects from both butterflies and moths. The fuzz and face are similar to moths while the antennae and wings are similar to butterflies.
Mollusc Slender #2 has some sort of eel, slug, or leech stuck onto its head.
Mollusc Massive #11 has goat like eyes and is clearly based off the
Mind Flayers of Dungeons and Dragons.
Mollusc Massive #16 is yet another blind alien.
Mollusc #17 has some kind of artistic design on its belly. This could either be tattoos or body paint.
Mollusc #18 has a glowing shell crack in the center of its shell spiral.
- Based on the amount of hair and the pattern of fungus on its skin,
Fungus Slender #04 is likely a parasitic fungus mind controlling a mammalian host.
Plant Massive #11 walks on root like legs like an arthropod instead of growing out of the ground like what viewing them at first may suggest.
Plant Slender #5 appears to be another parasitic species as the flowers are erupting out of the host.
Plant Normal #9 isn't wearing clothes, those leaves are a part of its body.
- Many of the plants are blind.
Slender #4, and
Lithoid Mantis #5 doesn't have any proper manipulators. Its arms end in singular straight claws.
Lithoid Crystal #12 has some sort of energy between the segments of its "arms." This suggests some sort of latent psionic abilities.
- Technically many Lithoids don't have eyes, but their biology is so different that it's hard to tell what exactly an eye is for them.
Necroid Feral Zombie #13 is another addition to the blind alien team.
- Some of the Necroids need extra technology to survive.
Necroid Suited Corpse #2 is wearing some kind of space suit,
Necroid Hologram #4 has some sort of mechanical apparatus on its upper body,
Necroid Connectoid #8 is extensively cybernetically augmented, and
Necroid Stasis Being #9 is stuck inside a water filled suit.
Machine Humanoid wears a cape on its left side.
Machine Fungaloid appears to be a more idealized and aesthetically appealing version of
Fungaloid Massive #12/Blorg. This fits with the lore of Blorg being so repulsive that they even find others of their kind hideous.
Is there any other hidden details you've noticed with the species portraits?
