I played a few other card games prior. My first was Hearthstone, and although it's a very polished game all around I can't say I like the community or card mechanics too well. The general trollishness of the game had me quit it relatively fast.
Magic/Magic Arena is alright so far. I don't have anything particularly negative to say about it, but it just fails to grip me and make me want to play it like every day.
GWENT I've hardly ever gotten into (mostly since I haven't played the Witcher franchise to begin with), but I think pretty much anyone would agree that GWENT is easily the most visually appealing out of all these. I really want to get into it simply because gee it's pretty.
I must add I'm a pretty casual player. While I did spend some money on Magic Arena (I used to play paper Magic), I'm not involved enough to get the whole metagame talk and stuff like that. I really just wanted to get into Legends since it's connected to the Elder Scrolls series.
I've played Legends for a little more than a week now. I didn't get into it when it came out and then totally forgot about its existence until recently for some reason. So I only know the game post-revamp. At this point I've gone past the initial "Jesus, it can't be that hard to do a card game that doesn't look like a Hearthstone clone… or can it?" phase and am enjoying it quite a bit. My issue is…
Legends just doesn't feel particularly like it has anything to do with Elder Scrolls. Elder Scrolls has always put so much attention on lore, yet the lore you find in Legends is so thin it's almost negligible. I mean, oh… right, it has like… races from the game and a few locations and… stuff. That's about it. There's no flavor text or anything that adds something beyond the actual card mechanics.
The interface and design is smooth but pretty generic. I don't really mind the colorfulness, but at least make the fonts something that doesn't look like hecking Times New Roman.
I love the Elder Scrolls series, and that's why I'm currently playing Legends, but I really think Bethesda should have more of a hand in this. I mean this franchise is their baby and I'm assuming they're proud of it. I would actually really like to pay for the game, but right now I can't say I'm too enthusiastic about it. There's way too many things to buy in that shop anyway.
