TheElderScrolls4 - Idea on Adding The Ability to Follow a God or Daedric Prince. Please check this out.

I have an idea that could be added to the core game that would be good for both the community and Bethesda. It would incorporate established lore that could be monetized.

To start this off with little to no confusion on this— I believe that this new mechanic should be included in a free update or a free DLC. They should also make paid DLC for new quests, possibly dungeons, and the ability to convert to a religion that is not apart of your races pantheon.

Here’s the pitch…

At the moment ESO currently has Mundas/Ritual Stones which allow the players to take on a blessing that has grants a player a permanent buff until you override the buff by activating another Mundas Stone.

I think Bethesda should incorporate the worship of the Divines, Daedric Princes, and other varied Gods that would allow players to take on additional permanent status effect that would directly relate to the character race you are playing as.

And if the player wanted to convert to another religion there should be a quest line that allows the player to convert and take on new permanent buffs of their choosing. I do not think players should be allowed to abandoned religions through quests because God’s are an established fact in Tamriel. The only race that paid no mind to the Gods were the Dwemer and since they are not a playable race I think it should be automatically applied. And who doesn’t want another buff to make their character stronger?

Below is a summarized list of the different races beliefs

• Wood Elves – worship both the Aedra and the Daedra • Argonian – worship no visable god, but they revere the Hist and Sithis (they do not see sithis as evil) • Breton – worship the 8 divines, 3 eleven deities • Khajiit – worship the divines, which may which may include Talos, not 100% sure, and Secunda & Masser moons who they owe their very being to • High Elves – worship the 8 divines and a few other gods • Dark Elves – worship Daedric Princes that are deemed good in some sort like Boethiah, Azura, Malacath, etc. They also accept the Daedra’s wrongdoings as just another fact of life that occurs so they do not resent the Daedric Princes for their cruel behavior towards mortals. • Redguard – worship the Redguard Pantheon, which is an evolution of the Yokundan’s Sakatal centered faith, which includes 13 gods, some that are very different from other Gods • Nords – the Nordic pantheon includes a variety of gods which include some of the 9 divines, some Daedric Princes, a handful of other gods, and also some figures like Alduin the ‘World Eater’ • Imperials – worship the 9 divines, thT is often referred to as the 8 and the 1 because the worship of Talos is banned and is considered to be a hidden divine due to the high elves refusal to acknowledge Talos as a god. • Orcs – worship Malacath the Daedric Prince who personifies the Sworn Oath and Bloody Curse and is considered to be a warrior-like god that encompasses conflict, battle, broken promises, and anguish.

How it would be good for the community and the individual player –

It would add another layer to the character you are playing as and would allow the player to receive blessings (either permanent or temporary, but preferably permanent since you’d a follower of that God)

I think based on this that each race should be able to choose a primary God out of the gods they worship. Players should also be able to abandon their chosen God if they want and be able to adopt a different God to worship that’s not in their default worship list through quest lines.

ESO is 6 years old and the base game and DLC’s are great, but I really believe that adding the worship of Gods to ESO would freshen it up a bit more as well as allow the players who are maxed out something new to explore. It would also allow players to come up with new character builds.

How it would be good for Bethesda and their ability to monetize more items in game –

Obvious ways Bethesda could monetize ESO

• Players could purchase new furnishing for their homes, such as furniture, statues, shrines and themes (that represent that God’s Plain of Oblivion). A theme for example could be Malacath’s Ashpit where it’s nothing but dust, smoke, and ash, where magical breathing is required to survive. They could add an effect to mimic his plain of Oblivion such as ash falling indefinitely and the players inside would automatically have a magical field around their character’s head/mouth. • Bethesda could also offer DLCs that have to do with these Gods, such as quests to allow the player to convert to a new religion, event quests that allow players to recover artifacts of their chosen God (possibly held on significant dates in the ESO calendar that could be converted to our calendar). These weapons would not be the strongest the game, but would be strong weapons only available to players who are Champion level 10 or above • Players could purchase outfits from the Crown Store. They could charge 300-500 Crowns that lets a player purchase a Followers Robe (that would change depending on the worshipped God.) • They could design new mounts, or add new horses with different armor designs & colors.

The not so obvious ways Bethesda could monetize ESO

A quick note before I start explaining—The Khajiit have multiple forms and their appearance is based on how Secunda and Masser appear in the night time sky when they are born. The Khajiit worship these heavenly bodies so it’d fit into the worship/religion idea.

• A new “pet” with some lore behind it. There is a type of Khajiit that is indistinguishable from a house cat called an Alfiq. They cannot speak, but have the ability to understand language. It is believed that these Khajiit would double as spies. The idea is you could purchase this spy pet who’d accompany you. Available for all races to purchase • A new mount that would be exclusive for Khajiit characters or the Aldmeri Dominion. The new mount would be a Senche-rhat, who are also called Battlecats. *Exclusive for the purpose of lore”

I feel like I’m just scratching the surface of what could be done if religion were added to the game. I think this idea would be great for the community and it could also make Bethesda even more money that they’d hopefully reinvest into the company and their employees.
