Those of you buying Skyrim on Game Pass are probably curious about modding capabilities on PC. While it's true that PC players generally have access to more mods than on console, you should be aware that the Steam version of the game has a more expansive modding capability than the Game Pass version does. A number of popular PC mods require Skyrim Script Extender ('SKSE'), a third-party program that the player launches the game through and which allows the game to run a number of new functions that you won't find in the base version. Due to console manufacturers' limitations on software modification, these mods are unavailable for any platform besides PC, and unfortunately, the team behind SKSE has posted this message on the download site:
SKSE cannot support any potential Windows Store release of Skyrim. Windows Store applications are locked down similarly to consoles and do not allow the APIs necessary for script extenders to work.Загрузка...
Game Pass users should still have access to a number of mods that aren't available on consoles, as you are no longer limited only to mods approved by Bethesda and Microsoft/Sony. The vast, vast majority of these mods are located at
https://nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition. You will need to create a free account to download anything, but be aware that the Nexus does contain NSFW content that may become visible once you have an account created. We're not responsible for your parent/guardian/family member/significant other/boss/buddy/alien controller catching you looking at something racy.
Additionally, we have received reports that the Game Pass version is compatible with the Vortex mod manager, which can also be found on Nexus. Using a mod manager is highly recommended, as it organizes your mod setup and makes it much easier to add and remove them if you need to. There is no word yet on Mod Organizer 2, the other popular option.
You do also have access to Bethesda's Creation Club, available through the game's main menu. We can't tell you how to spend your money, and we're aware that CC items will often be made available free for a limited time, but you should know that a large number of PC players have never touched CC and are quite satisfied with their modding experiences nonetheless.
That's all we've got for now. If you're new here, have a look at our FAQ, which includes the subreddit's rules and some beginner tips for your new adventure. Feel free to check out our Discord server as well.
We will edit this post as more information comes in. Now, move along. No lollygaggin'.
