I had most of the old arcanes farmed, double sets. Now I need one more for something like 40 arcanes. That's thousands of Scarlet Spear credits, ignoring the other rewards. That's hours of grind.
You lied to us.
Edit: Since many people are not understanding why I made this post, here’s an explanation from part of one of my comments below. It is long, I wouldn’t read it.
“This post is not complaining about an easier, more fair grind, vs the terrible Eidolon grind. The issue does not lie there. The issue are the changes to the arcane system in conjunction with the mechanics of Scarlet Spear, which was meant to alleviate the problems with the changes as per Steve’s quote. Here’s why:
Scarlet Spear is a time limited, timegated, overpriced event, which does not replace the Eidolon grind. The fact its grind is comparatively lighter compared to POE, which it true, is inconsequential, since it’s not a long term substitution. So it’s an improvement for new players, but only for the time being, and it being buggy and unstable screwed many people out of many credits for three days. You may think it doesn’t matter, after the TENTH unplayable update. I assure you it does. But all this IS NOT MY POINT. I REPEAT: not what I’m complaining about.
Scarlet Spear is actually being released after years of the Eidolons release, meaning many people DID the Eidolon grind, without alternatives. Does this mean no improvement is permitted? Fuck no (NERF THE HEMA GRIND). But, after having done that grind, obtaining two set of most Arcanes, three things happened:
I) They nerfed the Arcanes. It is a nerf, make no mistakes: they added cooldowns, modifications to mechanics, they balanced the new values after double stacking, which they removed, to be at 2/3 of what they once were. This means double stacking is the standard they were looking at in this balance pass, and this is indisputable. All in all, honestly? Fair. They had to, some Arcanes were busted. BUT this nerf makes what comes after, which is the real fucking problem, much more irritating. even if it was a warranted nerf.
II) They took a finished grind, they put their hands in our inventories, and made it so you had to grind again for the same item you had, since double stacked Arcanes went from needing 20 to needing 21 unrankeds. No, not only that, you had to grind again to get to a mere 2/3 of what you had. Isn’t this outrageous? Isn’t it unfair? I DESERVED THE RANK OF MAST- I mean, sorry. Was I saying? Ah yes. That’s saying nothing of people who single stacked Arcanes, which now have to get another 11 of the things, even tho they are not directly nerfed at rank 3, so in this case it’s a bit more acceptable.
III) But for the players who grinded a pair? No. All this was unacceptable, because we can stomach a nerf. We cannot stomach a nerf with a rebooted grind without reason. And this is after they explicitly said there weren’t going to do that, hence the lie. So I personally kept quiet about this, until Scarlet Spear. Because Scarlet Spear had to fix this stuff, as they promised. Scarlet Spear was unplayable for days, it requires hours to close the gap opened by DE, and it’s generally a mess.
I don’t know if for you HOURS of grind are equivalent to “we are not gonna exploit you for new arcane grind”, but it isn’t for me. I maxed Focus completely. I am MR 28. I know what heavy grind is, I kinda like it. I know this instance is nothing special, but it’s a question of principle. I don’t like being lied to, I don’t like being played, and I don’t like hypocrisy.”
