Fighting Umbra without an amp is the most aggravating gaming moment I can remember.
I probably died more than a hundred times trying to slowly ding away at umbras shields. It got so bad I just minimized the game and did other stuff for a while, I wasn't willing to close it since I'd depleted half his shields already. 40 minutes later, I open the game to that stupid screen where your operator floats…
How did no-one realize how tedious and stupid this was? I don't think anyone likes the operator stuff to begin with, but making it 10x harder, and not telling the player that they should do another quest first only makes it worse.
EDIT: To be clear, I didn't even know amps WERE A THING until I minimized the game and checked the wiki. By that time I had him down half-way or so, I wasn't going to toss my progress just to go farm something from another mission. Also, I may be wrong, but I don't think you can stop that mission once you're on it. (like the 2nd dream)
And to anyone telling me it wasn't THAT bad, you did it with a crappy amp in just X minutes: Amps give you a second pool of energy. When you don't have one, your dash and blast all draw from the same pool, and you have to decide if you want to do damage… or live.
