So recently I picked up the pickaxe to try it out and… There is a lot of discussion going on on this sub about the meta and balance, but… Isn't the pickaxe severely underperforming?
It's heavy, overhead attack needs like 5-6 headshots to kill a chaos warrior on legend. Keep in mind it's propably one of the slowest charged attacks in the game.
Light attacks have a very erratic attack pattern and extremely short reach. Shorter reach than 2h hammer, 1h hammer, 1h axe, 2 axes, axe and shield, hammer and shield. Just tested it all. The only weapon with similar reach is 2h axe. But 2h axe kills more stuff, staggers more stuff and have more horizontal cuts that are easier to control.
The pickaxe got terrible dodge efficiency. It's lower then 2h axe. You can dodge like… Twice. And thats it. The dodge distance is identical.
So… You got some cleave, some damage, terrible reach, abysmal mobility, low damage against heavily armored targets and erratic attack patterns.
The only argument I've seen on this sub in favor of this weapon was a month old video of someone soloing a skaven horde with it. With slayer. With buffs to attack speed and an F skill. On champion (or veteran, can't remember).
Great axe is a mediocre weapon. Some people use it. People complained that it needs a buff. Yet there is a weaker brother. With worse mobility, worse damage, worse speed. I'd rather approach a Chaos Warrior with 2 quick overheads and finish him in 6 quick strikes, than charge my pickaxe heavy for a month and see it do nothing.
Is there something I cant see? Maybe some flaw in my playstyle?
