I cant really think of any traits that are 'required' for the beam staff. Technique is whats important. Skirmisher is really nice though but I think this staff would work fine.
Fashion, not the prettiest of the dwarf helms but its an orange hat.
I wouldnt waste any keys for the luck stone unless you have nothing else to spend them on. It really doesnt do much at all and takes up a useful trinket slot. Unless you are farming for reds and with bots because you need to open every chest for it to be effective.
