Holiday Ops Loot Boxes Decoded

WorldofTanks7 - Holiday Ops Loot Boxes Decoded

With the recent announcement of Holiday Ops 2019, I figured now would be as good of time as any to talk about the inevitable loot boxes. Since I had some free time, I went back to some unboxing videos from last year and found the approximate odds of pulling the different rewards from them.

Before I get to the results, however, a quick refresher on how the loot boxes work.

The base reward for each box is two decorations and 250 gold with a guaranteed drop of one of the following items:

  • 250, 500, or 1000 Gold
  • 100,000 or 500,000 Credits
  • 1, 3, or 7 days of Premium Time
  • One of three Tier IV Premiums (T-28E F-30, Pz. B2, AC 1 Sentinel)
  • One of four Tier VIII Premiums (Skorpion G, Lorraine 40t, Type 59, T26E5)
  • You can also receive an emblem or inscription alongside one of the above rewards

So, after collecting data from 500 loot boxes, here are my results:

  • 250 Gold: 109 times or 21.8%
  • 500 Gold: 36 times or 7.2%
  • 1000 Gold: 7 times or 1.4%
  • 100,000 Credits: 103 times or 20.6%
  • 500,000 Credits: 41 times or 8.2%
  • 1 day of Premium: 107 times or 21.4%
  • 3 days of Premium: 36 times or 7.2%
  • 7 days of Premium: 11 times or 2.2%
  • Tier IV Premium Tank: 42 times or 8.4%
  • Tier VIII Premium: 8 times or 1.6%
  • Emblem/Inscription: 48 times or 9.6%

There appear to be three "Tiers" of rewards, I'm going to call them low, mid, and high.

Low tier rewards (250 Gold, 100,000 Credits, and 1 day Premium) seem to fall around a 20% chance to pull.

Mid tier rewards (500 Gold, 500,000 Credits, 3 days Premium, and Tier IV Premiums) are about 7-8%.

High tier rewards (1000 Gold, 7 days Premium, and Tier VIII Premiums) have about a 1.5-2% drop rate.

Of course, all of this is meaningless if WG changes how the loot boxes work this year, or alter the rewards list or something.
