TLDR: AS LONG AS YOU DO NOT EXPECT TO GET AN IS3-A OR OTHER T8 PREM AND ARE ONLY BUYING BOXES FOR THE AWESOME CURRENCY->GOLD CONVERSION RATES Holiday Ops 2019 Loot Boxes are an amazing way for players to get the MOST bang for their buck for credits, gold, and premium time as well as in game boosts using the decoration system. Wargaming is pretty much making it rain this holiday season if you're willing to put some skin in the game. As far as I have seen in my time playing this game this is some of the best currency->Gold conversion rates the game has to offer (In this case an average of 2.71x the usual USD->Gold conversion rate… THAT'S ALOT.) with a small chance to even recieve tier 5-8 premiums you may not have had before.
Now for the long part.
Overview: The boxes in this year's holiday ops are not too different from every other year of World of Tanks. They give you the value of the currency you put in in the form of a level 5 decoration as well as an RNG based chance to make a "profit" based on a garenteed chace to get a second decoration that could be level 1-5, recieving credits, extra gold, or even premium tanks, crew member(s) and one of 4 new tier 10 skins that look fantastic in my opinion.
Maths from THIS 200 box sample:
*ALL MATHS SHOWN ARE FROM THE RESULTS OF QUICKYBABY'S 200 BOX OPENING LINKED HERE*
152600 raw gold + 27750 (Gold value of credits) + 10800 (Gold value of premium time) = 190150 total gold value recieved from 200 boxes. (Does not include 6800 Gold value for 34 garage slots)
190150 / 25000 (amount of gold purchasable for 100 dollars) = 7.606 x 100 (Amount of USD spent on each 25000 gold pack) = 760.6 USD
760.6 / 280 (Amount of USD spent on the purchase of 200 boxes, 2 sets of 75 for 100 USD each, and 2 sets of 25 for 40USD each) = 2.71 (This represents the multiple of Gold value out of these boxes when compared to purchasing the Gold with USD.)
These numbers seem to be consistent with other 75 and 50 crate samples a few in game associates of mine were kind enough to keep record of, but in the intrest of brevity I will simply porvide you with the currency->Gold conversion rates of all 4 and the number of boxes opened in each set. I have been asked not to include their in game aliases and will be renamed to "Greg", "Steve" and "Jeff" instead.
Quickybaby – 200: 2.71x
Greg – 75: 2.43x
Steve – 75: 2.55x
Jeff – 53: 2.34x
Pros: I definitely support the method with which these boxes always give you your money's worth in gold and a lvl 5 decoration BEFORE you roll the dice on a possible "profit". It is my opinion that these boxes can be great fun knowing that no matter what you will always get what you pay for an commend Wargaming for including this mechanic. Looking at the numbers I can definitely recommend purchasing this year's loot boxes. AS LONG AS YOU DO NOT EXPECT TO GET AN IS3-A OR OTHER T8 PREM AND ARE ONLY BUYING BOXED FOR THE AWESOME CURRENCY->GOLD CONVERSION RATES
Cons: I must agree with QB and many others who have spoken out against the inclusion of unavailable premium tanks being locked behind and RNG wall. This kind conversion rate in terms of gold value recieved was more than enough for wargaming to sell these crates by the truckload this holiday season and the inclusion of these vehicles is simply not necessary. Still though, while it is regrettable that a somewhat sinister and potentially predatory addition was made to this year's boxes the sheer value for money on it's own is enough for me to reccomend their purchase anyway. AS LONG AS YOU DO NOT EXPECT TO GET AN IS3-A OR OTHER T8 PREM AND ARE ONLY BUYING BOXED FOR THE AWESOME CURRENCY->GOLD CONVERSION RATES
Conclusion: AS LONG AS YOU DO NOT EXPECT TO GET AN IS3-A OR OTHER T8 PREM AND ARE ONLY BUYING BOXES FOR THE AWESOME CURRENCY->GOLD CONVERSION RATES the numbers at the highest I have recorded (being this sample) add up to a dizzying 2.71x the normal Gold value and can be a fantastic way even if this sample was scaled down to 50 boxes to get gold, premium time, and credits. This is not even taking into account the in game bonuses you recieve from the decorations these boxes also include which have a monetary value as well as the garage slot gold value making the USD conversion rate even higher.
