Many years ago, back when classic WoW was first roaming the earth, I was just a young kid (currently 24). I had been at my friends house for the night, but we decided to go visit a friends house that was right across the street because his parents had also went there to have some drinks. While I was there, I had started my journey. I created an Orc and dove into the game. I was fascinated by this open world game, and even though I didn’t end up really creating my own account and story for myself until Burning Crusade, I loved the game. I never was able to consistently play through an expansion because of other games and other life commitments, but Wrath of the Lich King gave me my favorite class of all time, and my main to this day is still my human death knight.

A few months ago (a few months before shadowlands) I had decided I’d return to WoW. Since I’ve been back, I’ve become way more fond of the game and the experience I have with it, and that reason is because I’ve finally got into the lore of the game. Everyone will have opinions of certain characters and story arcs, and we might not like the outcome of some, but I believe the story of WoW is literally so amazing, and I am hooked on it and every night I find myself reading books, reading about characters or looking up info and just expanding my knowledge of the lore. I’ve purchased a ton of books (like Arthas and Thrall) and I am obsessed. The past 10+ years I’ve played this game back and forth, and I have NEVER paid attention to lore so there is just so much to unfold. When I say never paid attention…. I mean I never knew that the orcs were green because they were corrupted by fel (I was that oblivious). Additionally, even in Legion I did not even grasp how important the fel and demons were to the story of WoW (come to see they are literally the whole damn reason shit even went down). TDLR, I was oblivious and just played the game and skipped cutscenes and got to max level so I could kill shit and raid. I regret that, but reading all these books and googling certain characters and items has been so much fun. Like, it’s so cool seeing the true reason items like frostmourne existed and uncovering why Sylvanas is such a bitch.

I’ll hold off on the rant because I don’t want to really spoil anything for people, but if you love this game, and you see yourself wanting to love it and find respect for it even more, read some of the books or go back and watch past cutscenes and learn about this amazing game. I’ve taken the story and the development of this game for granted. And I am so incredibly thankful for it and excited to continue my journey of understanding the game that I have spent many years of my life enjoying.
