So If you didn't know the Yamato model in world of warships is kinda fucky and breaks most of her camos. Pulling up the OBJ file and the textures I think i know why.

The Yamato Model In Maya 2017

Firstly though the model itself is only 180 maya units long IE 1.8 meters to real life scale. And around 42 maya units high 420cm in real life scale, Which is fun as that is really small.

A simple Plane to Measure the models length

300k tris is a decent number considering the age of the engine used in the game.

But its when i looked at the UV’s that I understood why the textures kinda break.

They’re bad.

This is not exactly how the hull is layed out in the actual Texture files but close enough to demonstrate my point.

The Seems in the model are messy as hell Take the Front of the hull for example a place where texture warp/wrap is taking place

Looking at the actual UV's its clear to see why this happened.

Its a bit of a mess. That seem is not clean at all and makes texturing a lot more difficult later on. My main guess is that because this part of the ship is not really seen during game play the 3D artist didn't really care to much about there edge flow and allowed this to happen, now the funny thing is i now idea why the ocean soul camo itself gets so distorted in the game.

These types of camos are usually just projected onto the Ships UV's and because the initial Unrap is so bad texture errors like this are inevitable. Im even beginning to think this part was auto un-rapped

Other than that and another huge seem in the side of the ship here. WHERE THE DAMN DIFFUSE MAPS AND BUMP/NORMAL MAPS do not match up but match up just fine on the other side of it

Wargammings Shity texture work

Okay The actual model is fine. But they do need to re do these fecking textures and thankfully they should be addressing this with a new yamato "model"
