I am new to Twitch streaming and naturally because I like World of Warships I have been going through the various streams of the game on Twitch. I started taking a look at the various big streamers of World of Warships like Notser, Statsbloke, and SeaRaptor. I enjoy their content and appreciate how they generally ignore the toxicity and just play the game. I recently came across the community contributor named Wookie_Legend on Twitch and because I am a night owl I started watching his stream. He has great content and is very friendly to his community. He has a ton of giveaways which are out of his own pocket and even promotes that people not subscribe or donate money to his stream so they can use that money to take care of themselves during the pandemic. He is genuinely one of the nicest streamers I have seen on Twitch. On his stream on Monday someone watching his stream stated that they were having issues with depression and he told them to reach out if they needed to talk and so did other people in chat in the stream. I thought it was a great demonstration of how this community should be to one another.
Starting on Wednesday night I started seeing a (will not name them) clan start to team kill Wookie_Legend in matches on his stream. This occurred over and over as they were timing their match queues with him and every match this unnamed clan would either be on his team or the opposing team. They would then stream snipe him or team kill him during the match so as to render him ineffective in most of his matches. They even created Twitch accounts with antagonizing names, would then follow him, and then say disturbing things about him in the chat and also personally messaging him in World of Warships calling him fat and making fun of his stream stats. It was very very disturbing. The team killing and stream sniping has continued to occur the rest of the week. I recently invested in a streaming setup and after seeing what has been happening to Wookie_Legend I am definitely reconsidering my decision. What I have been seeing has been quite disturbing and I am hoping with this post that we can all get together, toxicity aside, and be there for Wookie. I am also hoping that by rallying together as a community, we can get Wargaming's attention in order to help him in any way that they can .
I am not related to Wookie in any way and had to put something out there for him because watching him handle it in such as positive way has been inspiring. Thank you Wookie for not letting them get to you and know that this has changed the way I think about how I treat other people in my life. Sure we all get upset and have said negative things about other players in the game or about Wargaming themselves, but attacking someone's charitable stream, their character, and how they look is not ok. This community won't stand for harassment or cyber bullying. If anything it will make us stronger and give us better causation to be better to one another in and out of the game. Anyone who has seen his channel and knows what a good guy he is to his followers, please add to this post. I will be posting something in the Twitch Reddit as well. Thank you everyone for reading and have a great weekend!
