Good Thursday morning
r/gtaonline! We’ve made some new changes to the rules to better suit the subreddit.
Reposted images and stolen content (content made by one creator and republished without consent and credit) will result in an immediate 7 day ban. No ifs, ands, or buts about it, unless you can somehow prove your post isn’t a repost, it’s getting removed and you’ll receive a ban.
An album containing examples of the most commonly reposted images can be found
here and linked in Rule 1 on the sidebar.
If your curious as to whether or not your meme violates this clause, if you found your meme anywhere on the internet, there’s a 110% of it already have been posted to
r/gtaonline, I guarantee it.
Concerning memes that aren’t ripped from GTA themed Instagram accounts and YouTube channels are memes that are made by users like you, more specifically we’re cracking down on ”low quality” memes.
What do we mean by this? Two things: “caption reaction memes” and memes where the punchline boils down to ”X is good/bad”
To go into further detail, ”caption reaction memes” are memes who’ caption might relate to GTA Online but the image itself bares no resemblance to GTA Online whatsoever.

If your curious as to whether or not your meme violates this clause, if you remove the caption, does the supporting image still relatively convey that it’s a meme about GTA Online? And is the supporting image generic enough that it can be used for virtually any meme?
Furthermore, ”X is good/bad” memes that make elementary level observations about basic functions in the game being either good or bad, memes such as Pavel good, Lester bad – Grinder good, Greifer bad – Toreador good, Stromberg bad – Money good, Sharkcard bad – Sparrow good, Buzzard bad, and so on and so forth, you get the picture.
An album containing examples of this particular type of meme can be found here.
If your curious as to whether or not your meme violates this clause, can you summarize your meme into a ”X is good/bad”?
Caption reaction memes and X is good/bad memes will be removed without question, and multiple violations of these rules will result in a ban; and like with any content that is removed from
r/gtaonline you can challenge removals in mod mail if you believe that your post unfairly removed and the moderation team will investigate it accordingly.
Let me make it clear that we’re not banning memes, it’s just the unfortunate reality that when the subreddit you moderate verges on 1,000,000 users there are growing pains involved and harsher quality control measures must go in place to guarantee a reasonable decent browsing experience for both veteran subscribers and new followers.
In regards to these rules will effect the subreddit and moderation from here on out, please know that these rules are ultimately fluid, meaning that if you were to post a funny caption reaction meme, then it says up, likewise for X is good/bad memes that the moderation team could find funny or high quality. It’s just a matter of the user base putting in more effort than stealing a template from r/dankmemes or r/memes and slapping some generic GTA Online discourse into the caption or title and calling it a day.
An album containing examples of what would be considered a passable meme can be found here.
If there are any questions concerning the new rule changes, please comment down below and myself and the other moderators will answer your questions to the best of our ability.
