MHW is at the same time the best game experience and also the worst online experience of any MH game released to date. The online side feels like a massive downgrade in every sense, except the convenience of being able to join mid-hunt. But the SOS system who was initially intended to get help from your friends or something, just became the only reliable way to farm and play online, pretty much killing the actual need for online sessions and online rooms.
This has led to a bittersweet feeling where we know we can get players to join our game within a few seconds but they are like NPCs, they are people you never interact with and people you will likely never see again after the hunt ends. Because even when the possibility of going to the camp is a thing, almost nobody uses it anyways.
I'm wondering if the convenience of SOS should be nerfed somehow. For example, making it so if you use a SOS flare, you get less rewards than if you start the hunt with 4 players. Or alternatively, slightly increase the chances of better loot if you start the hunt from the same online session. This way you still have the chance of sending a SOS flare but you would prefer to farm in the same online session. And make it so Assignments aren't affected by this, so people who actually need help may still get it.
Instead of forcing the players to be in the same online session, they could incentivize us from going and creating this online sessions and farming, like the good old times, where you would post a hunt and people would stay around for hours repeating the same quest and this is how you ended making new friends in MH.
