Game mods, just to clarify!
So, recently if you guys read the sticky, the rules of this subreddit have changed, within the new set of rules are what I feel are archaic and ignorant decisions about game mods on this sub.
- Posts Related to Cheating/Hacking/Game Mods We have a zero-tolerance policy on posts that share/encourage hacks or cheating. These posts will be removed and you will be permanently banned. THE ONLY POSTS ALLOWED IN THIS CATEGORY ARE TRANSMOG AND QOL CONTENT! This will be enforced strictly. Prohibited posts & COMMENTS include: no links to ANY sites related to modding, damage mods, decoration drop rate alterations, or ANY OTHER GAME ALTERATION THAT MIGHT RESULT IN AN UNFAIR ADVANTAGE. There are many subreddits dedicated to such topics.
This is apparently a "highly debated subject" within the mod team, as seen here
I feel that since this sub is for the MHW community (right?) it should exist for that community, and I feel game mods offer many improvements for – as well as showcase the talents and hard work of – the community.
So, cheats being banned here, I get it and agree. However, I feel it's silly to not allow links to sites which host game mods (nexus) with the reasoning that there also cheats hosted there. You can google "MHW cheats/hacks" and find whatever you want. darksouls is also a community for a console exclusive turned PC game as well. Game mods are welcomed there, and in fact there are highly regarded and recommended game mods linked on the sidebar there. They all link to nexus. Cheats/hacks are also banned there.
I feel "unfair advantage" is very up for interpretation for anyone in power here that just doesn't agree with something.
The NPC gathering hall mod is a VERY large advantage and quality of life improvement over console players. I own both the PS4 version and the PC version; I can tell you from personal experience it has already saved me hours of my life, and has made playing with friends so much more fun and easy.
The Hex World mod offers MANY changes to the game, including balance changes and both decreases and increases in difficulty as a whole. This can be viewed as unfair by some due to certain balance changes and decreases in RNG reliance.
The No More Tears mod "replaces every single optional quest with a version that has no HP variance and has the only HP roll as the lowest value legally possible for the quest." If you don't follow the speedrunning scene, you could immediately assume this was cheating and unfair.
Also, what strikes me as odd is that the wording of this rule makes it seem as though not ALL game mods aren't allowed, but then does not allow linking to sites with mods… So, what's the point of even talking about them at all? Is adding "google X mod to find the link" as a step really necessary if that'll be allowed too? I think it's silly.
Anyway, I'm not out for blood, I just think this isn't being handled in the best interest of the MHW subreddit community, and that's backwards to me. Have fun, y'all.
tl;dr: game mods are a good thing for the community, other similar subreddits have nexus links on the sidebar, MHW is a PC game now and not a console exclusive. Please discuss.
